Financial Controller, Shanghai

This position performs a critical control function combined with a variety of  basic and advanced accounting and tax functions, including the monthly general ledger close, preparing financial statements,  under PRC GAAP and US GAAP, submitting monthly tax filings, preparing annual statutory financial statements for external audit, documenting policies and procedures, implementation of local accounting systems, liaising with various department heads, management , and external auditors and participating in special projects as applicable.

Financial Reporting, Accounting and Control

Prepares all aspects of the monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements for the Merchant Asia business in accordance with local PRC GAAP and US GAAP. Maintains integrity of accounting records and reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

Identifies and records the differences between PRC GAAP, IFRS and US GAAP.

Performs general ledger reconciliations. Maintains, analyzes and summarizes general ledger accounts. Performs bank reconciliations.

Reviews results and investigates any unusual items and transactions. Prepares monthly reporting package for distribution to management. Prepares management’s discussion and analysis monthly and annually.

Reviews trade transactions. Ensures proper accounting treatment in the local accounts. Liaises with traders and structured finance personnel to gain an understanding of any new business and assesses and ensures proper control over the transaction lifecycle (trade initiation through settlement).

Documents local accounting policies and procedures. Interfaces with other departments on developing procedures. Responsible for overseeing accounting procedures locally, internal controls, and database management.

Prepares audited statutory financial statements for the China operations.  Serves as point of contact for external local auditors on the statutory audit.

Serves as a key contact with other departments and management offices (e.g. Tax, Operations,  Contracts, Finance, etc.) to ensure efficient execution of the daily business;

Prepares annual budgets and monthly variance analysis.

Tax Reporting

The candidate will be responsible for performing the following tax related tasks:

Act as liaison between the US tax department and China commercial team

Assist in reviewing periodic VAT, BT and CIT filings prepared by outside tax advisors

Assist in compiling relevant data to outside tax advisors for applicable filings and various statutorily required disclosures.

Required Skills

Required Experience:

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

Chartered Accountant Designation is required

Experience

Five years of experience in management accounting and financial reporting. Diversified   experience in wide variety of general accounting functions,  including maintaining general ledger, analyzing accounts, resolving discrepancies and financial and management reporting in a start-up division.

Experience in energy commodities is a must.
