In order to build a diversified portfolio of CPP assets, the CPP Investment Board invests in public equities, private equities, real estate, inflation-linked bonds, infrastructure and fixed income instruments. Headquartered in Toronto, with offices in London and Hong Kong, the CPP Investment Board is governed and managed independently of the Canada Pension Plan and at arm's length from governments.

Role Summary

We are presently recruiting for an experienced Futures and FX Trader/ Portfolio Manager (PM) within the Global Capital Markets (GCM) group in Public Market Investments (PMI) based in Toronto.  GCM in its role as execution provider for the fund is responsible for all transactions in public market securities, supporting internal active management programs, as well as the implementation and management of the fund’s passive portfolio.

Reporting to the Senior Portfolio Manager- GCM Structured Arbitrage and Execution, the PM plays a key role in futures and F/X trading globally. This position requires prior experience with trading futures with a focus on executing commodity transactions.

The Portfolio Manager assists team members in evaluating investment opportunities, conducting research, developing investment recommendations, execution of investments, monitoring and managing investments.

Role Specific Accountabilities

• Executing transactions with an emphasis in cost minimization

• Providing critical feedback to improving transaction cost models to portfolio construction teams

• Working with quantitative researchers to enhance strategies to reduce market impact

• Identifying and researching new investment opportunities within these asset classes in collaboration with internal active management programs

• Working as part of the Global Capital Market’s trading group to optimize and implement strategies related to the efficient implementation of the passive portfolio and beta management. 

If you possess the following, we’d like to hear from you:

• A minimum of 8 years relevant work experience

• Proven track record of executing and managing commodity futures.  In particular, having been part of a large successful global macro fund overseeing and managing commodity futures, currency forwards and interest rate swaps. Experience on a sell side trading desk is a plus.

• Good knowledge of finance, economics, statistics and econometrics as well as strong analytical skills

• Solid understanding of the various electronic platforms used for futures and F/X execution

• International experience a plus

• Excellent negotiation and communication skills (verbal and written)

• Evidence a strong understanding and interest in business law, finance, trading and structuring as well as strong analytical skills

• Experience with operations functions including; trade capture, accounting, valuations, reporting and cash related processes. Reconciliation of PL reports between back and front office to ensure correct derivative settlements

• Demonstrated prioritization and organizational skills with a very high attention to detail

• Proven ability to work independently as well as to  perform effectively in a team oriented environment

• Ability to work and learn quickly in a high performing culture, under pressure and with time-sensitive deadlines

• Preferably a Masters degree in Business, Mathematical Finance or other quantitative field. CFA an asset.
