Gas Operations Associate recruitment

Our client is a leader in the international wholesale energy markets who is now looking to employ a Gas Operations Associate (an individual who has had sound practical experience and application within the physical gas operations environment.) With its own portfolio of assets across a number of subsidiary groups to include; gas storage facilities, pipeline capacity, coal terminals, long-term coal supply contracts, a fleet of vessels, railcars, cranes and barges they are able to provide a sustainable foundation to source, supply, transport, store, blend and convert physical commodities across the wholesale energy markets.

The Gas Operations department is responsible for operating the gas supply, demand and trade activities of the organisation. This involves ensuring nominations (requests for gas delivery), scheduling, capacity and transportation requests are actioned on a daily basis across the UK and Continent within capacity limitations, with the prime objective of minimising financial penalties imposed under the relevant system operating regime and maximising any opportunities. The department is further responsible for executing operational tasks associated with delivery and on-going processing of LNG cargoes. These tasks include operational notifications to suppliers, communication with LNG terminal operators, agents and natural gas pipelines, as well as capturing all of this information in internal systems in a timely and accurate manner.

The Gas Operations Assistant is expected to assist the Shift and Non-Shift Gas Operators with a variety of their daily duties with a focus on developing an understanding of the Shift Gas Operators role and with the potential to join the shift team in the future.

The successful applicant will be expected to perform a variety of tasks to include;

• Assist with all nominations and checking on a daily basis across the UK and the Continent and minimising any financial risk.
• To assist with all storage and commercial natural gas contract requirements.
• To resolve any imbalance queries with counter parts on an on-going daily basis.
• Monitoring of the daily balance position and updating the position as and when required.
• Keeping swing contracts up to date and inform desk of new changes to weekly nominations, maintenance periods etc.
• The ability to use all the external IT systems required for nomination, capacity, storage and maintenance information purposes. These include Gemini, Coderunner, ISIS, ENOM+ and various ad-hoc websites.
• Assisting other members of staff to resolve any gas related issues.
• Review daily UK imbalances with counter parties and amend Gemini as necessary.
• Send daily/weekly/monthly nominations to suppliers.
• Post deliveries on the CVA (Claims Validated Agency) website to declare quantities flowed at the terminals. Review with counterparts and resolve any issues.
• Ensure that all deliveries are posted on the CVA website prior to monthly deadlines.
• Train new operators to perform the above tasks when necessary.

Knowledge of UK and Continental gas operations, its transmission systems (in particular Gemini) and various hubs are essential!
