GTI – Core Infrastructure Services – Application Services Engineering Manager – Executive Director – London recruitment

Core Infrastructure Services (CIS) is part of the Global Technology Infrastructure (GTI) group.
CIS performs two functions. Firstly it runs the firm's global data centre portfolio. Second, it functions as the execution agent for a number of technology towers getting work done in the data center. This covers the distributed, storage, IP network and Data Center services consumed by applications and enabling infrastructure.
An organisation change is occurring where a section of technology infrastructure staff from each business area are being further centralised into GTI between 1Q 2012 and 2H 2013. Staff performing both project and support work in the distributed space are moving in. Those performing project work would end up inside CIS.There are two new positions being created to receive these people.
One if focused on project staff in the pure server world (likely c150 people), and another for staff in the application Services space (likely c120-150 people). Each business will move people in one by one, in waves. This is a major organisational change event internally, very similar to many mergers the firm has performed. The position today will include staff from only two business areas (circa 50 staff). A key element of this is growing and structuring the global team, picking the right managers, adding layers as the team grows.Part of this change will be receiving staff who today may perform two roles (projects and support), who will in the future perform one role (projects).
As the Global Application Services Projects
Engineering Manager, you will be accountable for staffing and delivering projects for multiple Lines of Business (LOB) in the firm covering Database, Web and Middleware technologies.
You will be facing off across GTI and all internal LOB customers (at iCTO level, and 1 down).
This is a high profile position in GTI and you will frequently interface with senior management and various business infrastructure groups for resourcing projects.

You must be an experienced leader who can successfully split your time between running and transforming a function.
There is a critical requirement to optimize the function, by genuinely eliminating work that can deliver efficiencies. Efficiency expectations have been set already. A leader is required who can dig in and really understand what people are doing, and automate the work away to become more efficient (cost wise), with greater automation meaning work is done faster as well.
The position includes line management, functional leadership, and organisational management of a global team.
In some cases the staff are hard lined into this person (North America and Europe), and in some locations they are dotted lined (India and Asia Pacific).
The team will perform production changes and assume accountability for such.
The role will require being the escalation point for change activity during weekends which might result in an incident.
This will include giving support to Operate in the case a change causes an issue. This is likely nearly every weekend (monitoring of changes).
In addition to on boarding and slimming down, there is a need to provide upwards flexibility in staffing as investment levels fluctuate. This flexibility will come from appropriate vendor agreements to grow/shrink. The leader needs to work this out and put it in place, and make it work as well.
Additional responsibilities will include:Travel to visit team and customers (must be willing to spend time in Bournemouth UK, major US cities, London, India and possibly other parts of
Asia)Active partnership with the Technology towers who design and engineer the core builds of these products, and the Operations functions who day-to-day operationally manage them
