Position Description

Control Systems Development - Apply knowledge of classical and modern control theory to develop and support flight control systems. Apply knowledge of company, customer and government agencies performance and safety requirements or regulations in order to design, analyze, test and certify flight control systems. Apply knowledge of sensors, computers, servos, redundancy management functions, navigational aids, pilot/operator controllers and characteristics to the functional specification, analysis and testing of flight control systems. Ability to formulate requirements, evaluate control concepts in simulation facilities, document detailed specifications of control laws and mode logic for use by hardware and software designers, use computer workstation analysis and test tools, perform verification and validation lab testing, and conduct validation flight testing. Apply knowledge of engineering principles and techniques used in airplane systems, flight crew operations, maintenance operations, and manufacturing operations to develop and support the flight control systems. Familiar with Matlab and Simulink, and able to develop code scripts. Work under minimal supervision.

Typical Education/Experience

Level 4 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 9 or more years' experience, Master's with 7 or more years' experience or PhD with 4 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Level 5 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's 14 or more years' experience, Master's with 12 or more years' experience or PhD with 9 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Other Job related information

Experience in the areas of design, analysis, test and verification of flight control system and components. Experience with managing verification and approving supplier created documentation for components. Ability to define requirements and ensure that the impacts of regulatory and internal requirements are reflected in the system and component requirements. Ability to perform flight control system verification and validation utilizing simulations, laboratories and test vehicles. Review test data for compliance to those requirements.
