POSITION SUMMARY: Performs as a recognized technical authority with advanced knowledge and experience in local and wide area networking, communications, and related software/hardware within a multi-platform operating environment. Current on technological developments and applications, and evaluate vendor products to make recommendations for purchase. Recommends network security and policies. May work with Voice and/or Data Communications Analyst. Meets regularly with other network team leads to plan and coordinate efforts, resolve cross-team issues and communicate changes. DUTIES: Organizes and directs hardware installations. Analyzes and develops new hardware requirements and prepares specifications for hardware acquisitions. Directs and leads preparation of engineering plans and site installation technical design packages. Develops hardware installation schedules. Mobilizes installation team. Directs and leads preparation of drawings documenting configuration changes at each site. Prepares site installation and test reports. Coordinates post installation operations and maintenance support. RESPONSIBILITIES: Monitors, analyzes, troubleshoots and/or evaluates hardware, software, and other network related problems. Manages acquisition, installation, and maintenance of local area networks and wide area networks. Provides technical expertise for performance and/or configuration of the global networks and systems. Responsible for the overall integration of a total network including the planning, design, installation, maintenance, management, and coordination of the corporate LAN/WAN. Performs advanced level LAN/WAN administration, provides technical leadership in the integration and test of complex large-scale computer integrated networks. Monitors, tunes, and supports existing network infrastructure and ensures stable, reliable, secure, and efficient network operations. Responsible for monitoring, tracking and evaluating global Information Technology Infrastructure incidents. Recommends and implements improvements to existing LAN/WAN architecture, and network Management systems and/or provides resolution for network failures or performance degradations. Analyzes performance and tunes Network Monitoring systems to collect appropriate status. Supervises maintenance and upgrades of network systems, as well as conducts research and evaluation of products in support of LAN/WAN needs. Maintains current of technological developments and applications. Acts as primary interface with common carriers, suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, and maintenance providers to support data communications infrastructure. Evaluates, establishes and implements policies and procedures for LAN/WAN usage throughout organization. Provides network design solutions for new and existing organizational/client needs. Analyzes and recommends use of new products and services to senior management. Provides advanced level technical assistance (LAN, WAN, Intranet, and Internet) in network planning, engineering, security, and architecture. Approves and/or develops technical standards. Serves as a team lead or high level independent contributor. EDUCATION EXPERIENCE: Typically requires a bachelors degree or equivalent and 12 to 15 years of relevant experience are required. SECURITY CLEARANCE: Must be able to obtain a TS/SCI with polygraph security clearance. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Normal demands associated with an office environment.
