The role: Hardware Testing Engineer
Google's custom-designed machines and networking hardware make up one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. The Hardware Testing Engineering team ensures that this cutting-edge equipment is reliable. As a Hardware Testing Engineer, you will design tests around characterizing or qualifying different types of equipment from networking to server systems and provide leadership and guidance to junior Hardware Testing Engineers where needed. Working closely with design engineers, you give input on designs to improve our hardware until you're sure it meets Google's standards of quality and reliability.
Responsibilities:
- Assist design engineers in testing and evaluating new products, root causing issues found in test data, and actively participating by making sound recommendations to resolve the issues.
- Perform bench level repair and bring-up on engineering prototypes; Prepare and execute diagnostic test plans while documenting results.
- Execute DVT test plans such as signal integrity measurements and environmental tests; Generate and apply engineering change orders or other experimental reworks.
- Assemble test fixtures, load banks, and other components common to product development.
- Lead efforts in a electrical engineering lab which includes coordinating bring up efforts, delegating tasks, and setting priorities for other team members.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be able to work from schematics, CAD drawings, rough engineering drawings and/orverbal instructions
- 5 years of experience working in a hardware RD lab environment.
- Possess excellent soldering skills and is able to solder small packages such as 0402 resistors and other SMT devices
Preferred Qualifications:
- BS degree in Computer/Electronic Engineering
- Working knowledge of modern analog and digital electronics and electronic circuits.
- Proficient with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, amp-probes, logic analyzers, communication analyzers, etc.
- Ability to clearly present information both orally and in written format to all levels of engineering individuals.
