Head of Audit
Job Purpose:
Provide technical expertise across Group Audit and the business to enable Group Audit to provide an independent, professional and cost effective risk based audit service ensuring a systematic approach to the evaluation and improvement of risk management, control and governance processes over change initiatives. Partner with Relationship Managers to ensure sufficient audit coverage for change initiatives given business strategies and the current external market environment.
Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain a high performing practice, developing colleagues through challenging performance feedback and coaching.
- Review, evaluate and influence strategic priorities and plans for assigned areas of the business, attending project governance forums as appropriate.
- Develop and implement the quarterly rolling audit plan, taking into account business priorities and risks
- Commission and direct assurance activity to identify potential risks, issues and solutions and deliver reliable, independent assurance on the effectiveness of the control framework.
- Champion the culture, vision and values through visible leadership and by example
- Demonstrate leadership within the Audit function by influencing strategic decisions and representing Audit in corporate projects with an impact across a whole division or divisions
- Influence senior stakeholders to embed risk management and controls into strategic decision making
- Maintains up to date awareness of relevant regulatory and statutory environment
- Build and maintain external and internal networks for the purpose of commercial awareness, satisfying external audit requirements and identifying best practice
- Apply and champion the Group Audit methodology and standards and develop audit practice to deliver high quality audit papers and files.
- Develop excellent change methodology and change capability in Group Audit.
- Provide subject matter expertise to guide audit approach to change including transformation. Understand the impact of change risks on the business, provide assurance on change in the Group, advise and provide challenge on appropriate audit approach both during targeting and during audits. Participate in audits when appropriate.
- Identify technical expertise needed to deliver change audits, define and own the change capabilities across Group Audit.
Technical Skills:
- Audit or business experience of major change initiatives and projects including skilled level of project and programme assurance and change framework assurance.
- Project management expertise.
- Skilled at strategy development or review.
- Experience of significant change projects.
- Expertise in risk and controls across financial institutions.
- Strong Risk and Control focus.
