Head of Automated Trading recruitment
Reporting to Global Head of Trading, he would be responsible for managing the whole process of “automating” trading strategies – either by making trading aids (for detecting market opportunities and for execution of trades) or by developing fully automated systems (black boxes).
He will manage the whole process chain beginning with interacting with Trading Managers/traders to generate ideas to make trading tools/fully automated systems which can work more profitably if automated, interacting with software development team (which is a separate division but focussed on “programming” tools for automation) to have the tools/black boxes developed and, then, ensuring delivery of tools to the traders. Thereafter, he would manage the “portfolio” of trading aids and black boxes during their whole life cycle. This is a “Revenue” position with revenue generated both out of “value” added by the tools as well as trading revenue from black boxes.
The generation of ideas is driven primarily out of trading strategies being used in the firm. However, use of quantitative techniques is inevitable in these tools/black boxes as they reach higher levels of complexity. We are already doing that in some of the tools and we have a small team currently who is actively engaged in this process. Hence, the candidate should be well versed with these techniques or will be expected to get well versed over a period of time.
The candidate need not be an expert in programming as that will be done by the software development team but he should be familiar with programming.
It depends on the level of person we hire but the position is ideally a middle management position. This is primarily a “manager” role as the candidate is expected to drive the whole process of “automation” in the firm. He/she should be an excellent manager and be able to:
- “drive” business with high energy and focus on revenue;
- interact actively with traders, branch managers, software development team and Group IT.
- quants and over a period of time, “algorithmic traders” would directly report to him.

- Responsibility for automated trading idea generation –
- To encourage traders to come up with ideas on strategies that can be automated – part of their trading that computers can do fast better.
- To present and market existing tools and create a possibility / space in traders mind for automation.
- Take holistic view of all incoming ideas and be able to channel the right ideas forward for development in a right manner.
- Closely work with Branch Managers Globally to create the buzz towards automated trading at root level.
- Closely work with Technology team to align them more towards trading business by instilling our trading culture as well as relevant business / finance knowledge.
- Be the source of expertise for Automated Trading in the firm who also helps “Point and Click” traders understand better how ” automated trading” works and how they can exploit weaknesses of automated trading and strength of human trading to do their job better.
Qualifications:
Ideally, the candidate should have atleast 10 years working experience out of which at least three years should be in algorithmic trading space. He/she should have good knowledge and experience in:
- Quantitative space (maths, science, engineering, quantitative finance);
- Trading space – trading, risk management and money management.
- Programming space
We will prefer people who have worked in algorithmic trading firms and are familiar with this kind of working environment.
Position is preferably based out of Gurgaon, India but it could be based out of any of our offices globally in India/China/Israel/Eastern Europe. It will warrant frequent travel/stay in branches globally.
