Head of Projects, Mechanical Building Services, National, 65K Job in London, Midlands Uk
Head of Projects, Mechanical Building Services, National, 65K
Head of Projects, strong financial backing, national role for right candidate; however, majority of work within Midlands/North West.
About the Client:
Our client is an independently accounted mechanical-building-services business within a large operating group (circa £70m.) It has its own management board, which is accountable to the shareholders' board of the holding company only. Our client is entrepreneurial and expects this to be reflected in the actions of its top management. It enjoys both the flexibility of being an SME, with the security of a holding company with access to millions' worth of investable capital if needed to be drawn upon. In 2009 they appointed a national head of ME maintenance to increase revenue/profits, and the MD feels that due to the success of this appointment it wishes to recruit a top manager to head its ME projects unit.
They have recently held year-end meetings with the holding company and presented a plan to double turnover, booking £6m for 2012/13. Through continued business-development efforts they have opportunities with five huge UK clients. The MD has personally "open doors," and he needs someone to help him focus on the development of further customer bases. Their project work is specifically aimed at end users and is referred, presently, through the portfolio of work, which another company in the group, a large-scale engineering maintenance company, has secured. The majority of their work is mechanical building services and HVAC.
About the Role:
Operationally, you will be expected to manage engineering teams who are responsible for projects up to £2m;
The areas of work will be refurbishment and fit-out/re-fit, and not new-build;
You will take on the responsibilities of the principle contractor to the client, subcontracting, if necessary, fit-out works such as ceiling, partitions, electrical installations;
Your average profit margin will be expected to be circa 15% gross;
This is a national role; however, the majority of their clients' work is within the North West and East Midlands;
You will manage a small team of four to five design-and-build engineers and look to grow the team.
About the Candidate:
Operationally, you will be experienced in leading an engineering team on design-and-build projects up to £2m;
You will be experienced in developing relationships and securing work through your network;
You will be experienced in directly dealing mainly with end-user clients and have excellent presentation skills;
It is important to appreciate that our client has a close working relationship with its clients and its managers are expected to have excellent presentation and communication skills;
As they would like to develop new clients you will need to be good on the presentation side of things (i.e., presenting the pricing of the job to the client).
