The Australian operation has enjoyed strong revenue and asset growth and as a result is recruiting strongly across key departments and functions.
A newly created opportunity now exists in our Sydney Branch’s Back Office Trade Finance department to support our growing trade finance operation. This role is ideal for an experienced trade finance professional who is looking to work in a smaller team environment, within a large global trade operation. The right person for this role will have a very solid grounding in the technical aspects of traditional and structured trade finance, and be good at working with people to achieve successful outcomes.
Reporting to the Deputy General Manager of Back Office, the role will require you to:
- Oversee daily trade finance transactions in a timely and efficient manner whilst providing effective control of the Back Office trade finance function
- Assist the front office in establishing and developing any new trade finance product and to prepare its function workflow and ongoing supervision
- Create new procedures, processes and an infrastructure to provide effective control of all trade finance transactions, and utilise SMBC’s global network in order to maximise trade finance opportunities
- Ensure the processing of daily trade transactions, including reviewing both import and export documents and liaising with clients to ensure correct presentation
- Approval of trade finance draw-downs, rollovers, repayments for both import and export deals
- Ensure the collection of accrued interests and fees in a timely manner
To succeed in this role you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in a finance related discipline
- Minimum of 7-10 years experience in international trade finance
- Structured Trade Finance product experience
- Strong leadership and management experience of running the Back Office trade finance function
- Understanding of import and Export Australian regulations and Knowledge of local legislation relevant to Trade Finance
- Strong time management and customer service skills
- High-level accuracy and attention to detail
- Business level communication skills both written and verbal
- Ability to interpret and follow company polices, processes and procedures
- Well developed knowledge of banking system and processes
