Health and Safety Advisor
Location: Atikokan, ON P0T1C0
Health and Safety Advisor (6-month Rotational Opportunity) Act as a consultant and resource to provide advice, guidance and assistance to the Management Team, Joint Health Safety Committees and staff on all occupational and non-occupational health and safety matters. Provide functional guidance to personnel on the interpretation, explanation and application of Occupational Health and Safety Legislation, standards, programs, policies and practices. Responsibilities: • Independently perform management duties relating to the security of a large construction site with a team of security staff to support upwards of 400 personnel and multiple interfaces between the facility owner, the facility management, site visitors, and the trade, craft, transportation and housing personnel. • Support the construction leadership in implementing safe work practices and procedures as a member of the safety team. • Provide safety culture coaching and mentoring to supervisors, craft and trade personnel in the work area. • Provide timely communications to the construction management team regarding security and safety concerns. Requirements: • A period of over 4 years and up to and including 6 years is considered necessary to gain this experience. • A diploma in Occupational Health Safety or Safety Engineering Technology would be an asset. • Requires knowledge of the physical sciences, mathematics, management techniques and ergonomics to apply and interpret Health and Safety requirements. • Requires advanced written and oral communication skills to clearly communicate with a wide variety of people and to act as a resource/consultant/facilitator in a variety of committees or task group situations. • Requires experience in a Health and Safety function to be familiar with the policies and procedures governing Health and Safety issues. • Requires experience in a station environment to become familiar with the working environment of a power station and the related issues. • Responsible to provide station staff with advice, guidance and assistance on health and safety matters related to their staff and working environment. • Responsible to ensure that established procedures and guidelines are compiled with. • Requires working with groups to resolve problems which are often due to the health-safety related aspects of the work. • Requires providing advice, guidance and assistance on occupational and non-occupational health and safety matters and ensuring that established procedures and guidelines are complied with. • Requires contact and mutual exchange of information with associations, WSIB, Ministry of Labour and other outside groups. May require dealing with external suppliers. • Travel required 50% of the time. • Must be eligible to work in Canada. Reporting and Location: • The position reports to the Health and Safety Manager. • Opportunity exists in Atikokan, Ontario.
