Hedge Fund Finance Director – COO/CFO & Partner Progression

The fund was only launched a couple of years ago and has grown significantly in that time. They are doing things the right way and are continuously looking at growth and diversification, whilst internally they are always keen to keep a close eye on succession planning. The current COO/CFO is in the short term looking to relinquish his finance responsibilities, hence why they are looking to hire an FD. Moving forwards the COO/CFO is going to train the hire to eventually take on his role given his desire to take more of a back seat, non-executive role in the fund.

You should expect your remit to be heavy on compliance, regulation and tax. This is of course in addition to being in charge of all financial matters at the fund (financial statements, financial reporting etc.). As the fund expands your remit would also include a greater element of responsibilities around risk management. You are to also closely shadow the current CFO/COO on a continuous basis as he is going to invest his time and wealth of experience in order to train you up to eventually take on his role.

The client is looking for an individual from a strong finance background, ideally ACA qualified, specifically from the hedge fund space. There is a strong focus on compliance and regulation so any experience in that space would be very useful. For example we would take an indiviudal at a larger fund that is in a senior compliance / reg role. The alternative and perhaps more realistic route is to look for a senior financial controller or a more junior Finance Director that currently has a wide remit at his/her current fund. Any tax experience would be seen as an advantage.

The client is ideally paying an 80-120k base salary and there is a particularly strong bonus element. The eventual step up to CFO/COO would include a strong increment in addition to a % stake in the fund. It is worth mentioning that the benefits are particularly attractive for a hedge fund.
