Charles River Analytics is developing a state-of-the-art user-centered enterprise system for members of the U.S. Armed Forces concerned with understanding and making decisions about human behavior, monitoring and optimizing missions, and communicating and collaborating with other teams. This is an excellent opportunity to research, implement, and evaluate various human interface technologies within well-defined domains. The selected candidate will work directly with other scientists and engineers to determine the requirements of the domain, design user-focused and requirements driven systems, and assist in implementing these designs throughout the software development process. You will need to be able to quickly read and understand scientific papers, and apply previous research to create new designs, while remaining abreast of current best design practices. In addition to designing quality user interfaces, you will need to clearly communicate your rationale and underlying analysis through written and verbal means.
Major Responsibilities/Activities:
- Analyze and design visual representations for complex problems
- Design and support development of novel decision support systems
- Interact with customers, users, and domain experts to analyze and understand challenges
- Pursue technologies to implement solutions, including establishing new areas of research
- Work with software engineers in developing technology solutions
- Contribute to proposals, reports and papers, and present work at briefings and conferences when appropriate
Minimum Requirements:
MUST HAVE:
· Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Human Factors Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science/Psychology, or a related field (e.g., Computer Science with HCI or Interaction Design focus)
· 0- 2 years of relevant experience
· Strong verbal and written skills to support proposal writing, interaction with customers, and presentations at technical conferences
· Demonstrated ability generate clear, grammatically correct written materials
· Experience designing user-focused interfaces and systems
NICE TO HAVE:
· Knowledge elicitation experience
· Familiarity with design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Balsamiq, Omnigraffle, etc.)
· Knowledge of ArcGIS, Worldwind, Ruby on Rails, Java, JavaScript, HTML5
· Experience directly interacting with customers
· Experience with Agile/Scrum development processes
A publication in any of the above fields
· Experience in behavior analysis, social dynamics, persuasion, and/or international marketing
