Health Plans
Health Plans face a number of unique environmental pressures that affect the way they will conduct business today and in the future – among them a need for increased privacy and security, an intense focus on risk management, access to capital, efforts to consolidate and streamline IT functions, the launch of new consumer–driven business models, managing chronic diseases through medical management practices, maximizing e–business–driven platforms, implementing health plan–specific customer relationship management tools and complying with increasing financial and transactional legislation. Our healthcare professionals can help clients address these and other challenges in today's complex health care environment.
ICD–10
In 2013, per the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Final Rule CMS–0013–F, the United States will move from the ICD–9 system of disease classification to ICD–10, a much more complex system that reflects recent advances in disease detection and treatment via biomedical informatics, genetic research and international data–sharing. ICD–10 has the potential to create value for health care providers and the industry as a whole. If adoption is successful, the promise of a richer body of diagnosis and procedure data would allow better trending, a more detailed understanding of costs and benefits, and an ability to more precisely understand the effectiveness of managing care across the continuum. Deloitte has developed an ICD–10 methodology and a three–pronged assessment approach that results in an understanding of the provider's current state, identifies specific gaps in operational and technical capabilities, and provides a roadmap for remediating those gaps.
