POSITION OVERVIEW:
MSCI calculates more than 45,000 equity indices on a daily basis using information for more than 24,000 securities belonging to 75 countries worldwide. These indices include over 8,000 real time regional, country, sector, industry and industry group indices, calculated every 60 seconds throughout the trading day and seven derivative indices, calculated every 15 seconds.
The initial job responsibilities will be the management of the day-to-day calculation and dissemination of the MSCI equity indices. The calculation of these indices requires interpretation and implementation of various events occurring for securities, including stock splits, rights offerings, and dividends, addressing operational issues with IT support, and recommending procedural and technical enhancements as appropriate. Fundamental knowledge of global stock market functions will be needed to succeed in this position, but this can be acquired on the job and is not a pre-requisite.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Research and interpret securities information and price fluctuations, using a variety of tools such as Bloomberg, Reuters and stock exchange web sites
- Coordinate the implementation of corporate events in the MSCI indices with other benchmark teams
- Modify index database in accordance with changes in constituents, coverage or methodology
- Monitor the calculation and production of more than 45,000 indices for data quality
- Stock Exchange closing price policy review
- Manage the daily distribution of index data files to MSCI clients
- Participate in various projects and conduct UAT
- Supervise MSCI real time data and infrastructure
- Analyze stock market structural changes
- Respond to client queries in a timely and accurate manner
- Self-motivated project initiatives
- Liaise with data vendors and stock exchanges
The Index Associate may also be required to perform one or more of the following:
- Participation in the planning and implementation of new products or processes
- Development of indices tailored to specific client needs
REQUIREMENTS:
- University Degree with keen interest in Finance, Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, or Mathematics
- Two to three years of relevant experience
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken
- Superior knowledge of spreadsheet tools
- Highly developed organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Flexible in working hours
- Attention to detail
DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Familiarity with Reuters and/or Bloomberg market data systems
- Professional experience should preferably be from the financial industry
- SQL and basic UNIX command is preferable
- Fluency in another international language(s)
