FUNCTION
Plans utilization of facilities, equipment, materials, and personnel to improve efficiency of operations. Establishes work measurement programs and analyzes work samples to develop standards for labor utilization. May contribute to the development of budgets and forecasts. Drives continuous improvement activities through implementation of lean techniques.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES RESPONSIBILITIES (Note: Other duties may be assigned)

· Develop short and long term manufacturing strategies and forecasts including manpower, layout, equipment and process flow

· Develop and maintain manufacturing measurements

· Develop capacity analysis and recommendations through the use of time studies, flow analysis, production cost and schedule

· Drive continuous improvement activities through the training, use and implementation of lean philosophies and tools

· Oversee the generation of labor cost estimates for new and existing products and budgeting of labor
costs for all plant operations

· Support Manufacturing Engineering with renderings in AutoCAD (or appropriate design tool), which represent capacity planning initiatives, operating efficiency and process improvement, and related business requirements including plant layout

· Diagnose and analyze operating problems in the plant and Distribution Center

· Ensure that standardized Industrial Engineering practices within the company are being followed

· Recommends methods for maximizing the utilization of production facilities and personnel by restructuring job duties, reorganizing work flow, relocating workstations and equipment, and purchasing equipment in adherence with governmental, health, safety, and other regulations

· Prepares cost estimates for proposed projects and evaluates cost factors pertaining to cost control, as well as time and motion, work standards, work methods, personnel utilization, service, and quality

· Review Bills-of-Material to ensure conformance to defined Manufacturing Processes

· Create graphical and written documentation to support DFMA (Design for Manufacturability and Assembly) qualifications as specified within new product development program guidelines

· Implement lean techniques through continuous improvement activities such as 5S, Kaizen, TPM and Visual Management

· Manage and assign special projects, as required

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering preferred or related field

· Additional training in Lean Manufacturing Techniques preferred

· 3-5 years experience as an Industrial Engineer

· Basic understanding of Vera Bradley shipping process and current product offerings preferred

· Basic understanding of Vera Bradley cutting and scheduling systems and technologies preferred

· Ability to coach and motivate others

· ERP/SAP experience a plus

· Strong PC skills utilizing Microsoft Office software including advanced skills in spreadsheet, database and graphing applications

· Strong analytical skills with decision making and problem solving ability

· Detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

· Excellent organization and follow through skills

· Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

· Ability to build and maintain good rapport with internal and external customers and handle situations with confidence, tact and resourcefulness

· Ability to balance multiple assignments simultaneously and effectively budget time

· Mathematical skills, including the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference;
apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations
