Infrastructure Analyst-Storage/Unix Job in Calgary, Alberta Canada

Our client is looking for Contract to Hire Infrastructure Analyst-Storage/Unix for their IT department in Calgary, AB.

 

The combined role of Infrastructure Analyst for Unix/Storage is part of a team working within an IT team based framework, responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and administration of IBM Unix servers and NetApp network attached storage (NAS) devices. The servers and storage provide access to databases, internet, backups monitoring and application specific environments to over 6000+ clients.  The Unix/Storage Analyst will provide support for users, corporate file restores, installation of new servers and applications, allocation of storage, timely reporting and troubleshooting. The primary focus of the position will revolve around the operational support of the UNIX and NAS environments and may grow with experience to include project and architecture type work.

 

Skills required for this position include:

·         Strong written and verbal communication;

·         Ability to produce readable, current, and correct documentation on all Unix and NAS systems;

·         Server and Storage configurations, installations and management;

·         Strong analytical and problem solving abilities;

·         Ability to work effectively within a team environment and independently;

·         Must be able to perform change management / incident reporting accurately without supervision;

·         IBM AIX, NetApp and HP Server hardware experience;

·         Back-up methodology;

·         TCP/IP networking;

·         Disk subsystem management; and

·         Capacity planning.

 

Qualifications and Responsibilities for this position include:

·         Candidates must have a minimum of three years of experience in Unix and NAS Support, Ideally in a large Oil and Gas Company;

·         The ideal candidate will also have a University degree or technical school diploma;

·         Preference will be given to candidates holding NetApp and/or IBM AIX certifications;

·         Preference will be given to candidates holding any level of ITIL certification (www.itil.org.uk); and

·         Should have at least one of the following certifications and as much related experience as possible.

·          Unix

-          IBM Certified Administrator AIX 6.1

-          Monitor Unix environment

-          Audit quality of Unix based systems, including storage, and corporate backups

-          Perform maintenance on Unix systems, including storage, and corporate backups

-          Provide routine Unix system administration, basic scripting, data/file cleanup and ID maintenance;

-          Manage workload from a Service to Client perspective

-          Provide predictable and consistent service to clients and peers

-          Provide second level incident support  for internal and external customers ensuring OLAs are met

-          Provide support for internal and external users through User Support

-          Analyze and deploy security patches within the environment

-          Provide recommendations for environment improvements

-          Execute high availability and failover scenarios for the environment

-          Document any Procedures to do with System Support

-          Provide job scheduling/management, office and on-call support for production servers;

-          Report on monthly server performance logs and tuning metrics;

-          Automate routine processes and generate auto-error/paging reporting;

-          Report on SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) defined security standards and processes.

·          Storage:

-          Netapp Certified data Management Administrator Certification

-          Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with Netapp (Either via DFM or Remedy)

-          Work within the NAS infrastructure and toolset;

-          Understanding of NAS protocols, NFS, CIFS, iSCSI

-          Provide and report on daily storage health checks;

-          Verify daily automated database snapshot processes are successful;

-          Design Storage solutions based on capacity, continuity, and availability planning.
