Intercompany Controller

DEPARTMENT:  UK Finance
JOB TITLE: Intercompany Controller 
 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• To perform reconciliations supporting inter company positions within the general ledger to strict deadlines. Work in conjunction with counterparties and UK operations to ensure that breaks are cleared / escalated on a timely basis.
• To effectively interact and support other Newedge offices and the Group function to provide oversight and insight into the UK related intercompany balances and to promote/help develop cross regional controls and policy.
• Reviewing and production of inter company invoices and providing suitable back-up to counterparties.
• To assist business managers in production of inter company service level agreements.
• To provide adhoc reporting and analysis as required on the intercompany positions.
• To develop effective relationships with the wider Finance community (including Group and Regional) to aid overall transparency and control relating to intercompany balances.
• To escalate material events, exceptions, issues, limitations or constraints to Finance Management on an adequate and timely basis, and in compliance with documented escalation policies
• Assist with testing of new processes and systems to enhance control and or in line with strategic management plans.
• Participate appropriately in development forums, meetings, committees
• Identify current or future potential weaknesses in controls, procedures, processes that may result and escalate them to the relevant management.
• Work with the Global project team on improving the inter company process.

Operational Risk Regulatory Responsibility;
• Responsibility for ensuring that you are fully aware of and adhere to internal Policies that relate to you, your business or other businesses for which you have any level of responsibility.  It is your responsibility to ensure compliance with operational risk requirements (e.g. Golden rules, security policies and regulatory requirements).

• Observe proper standards of market conduct.  Responsibility to ensure that you take reasonable steps to be fully aware of, understand and comply with all regulatory requirements from all regulatory bodies that are applicable to your business.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

• Substantial accounting experience within a financial services environment
• Experience of balance sheet ledger control environment or SOX background.
• Relevant experience, either within the brokerage industry or investment banking would be desirable.
• Systems knowledge should include a solid use and understanding of Excel, ideally with the use of pivot tables and functions such as VLOOKUP and SUMIF.    Strong systems skills are essential due to the large volume of data being processed.
• The desire to improve ledger controls accounting is essential to the success of the role.
• Being a team-player, and the ability to work as part of a team, is vital.
• Ability to operate in a hands-on and diverse environment.
• There is a high level of contact with the front and back office, as well as other Finance team members, so the candidate would have to feel confident dealing with a variety of people at different levels.
• Due to the high levels of communication with both front and back office, as well as within Finance, strong English skills are essential.
