The Operations division is both the first line of defence for protecting Morgan Stanley's financial and reputational well-being, and an essential partner contributing to the firm's growth. Facing off to all Morgan Stanley businesses and interacting with all other parts of the Firm, the Operations division supports a complex, multi-faceted portfolio of businesses in full compliance with regulatory guidelines and the directives of the Operating Committee and Board of Directors. Members of the Operations team have a unique vantage point as the division touches all parts of the business, front to back. One of the largest divisions in the firm, Operations has diverse responsibilities, including correctly settling and recording millions of transactions per day, identifying and mitigating all operational risks, developing strong client relationships and partnering with technology to realize the full potential of IT and e-solutions. Shared Services and Banking Operations (SSBO) provides utility processing services to Global Operations. By functionalizing processes across segments, SSBO realizes efficiencies through scale, location strategy and adoption of best practices. SSBO provides quality operational core processes at an optimal price point, with maximum benefit to MS business lines. Services currently provided by SSBO include Cash Management, OTC Derivative and Security Settlements, Position Services, Reconciliations, Tax, Client Reference Data, Network Management and Vendor Management.

Global Network Management's (GNM) core responsibilities include new market entry, selection and management of agent bank relationships, pre-investment support and provision of market information relevant to the business activity of the firm and its client.

 

The management of Morgan Stanley's clearing and custody relationships in the European region and is split into two key areas: risk/cost data management and relationship management. The team operates as a global unit with extensive communication between Network Management colleagues in New York and Hong Kong. Network Management supports Equity, Fixed Income, Commodities, Listed Derivatives, and FX product groups.

 

Position Responsibilities:
- Ongoing review of agent bank providers, through various due diligence procedures including evaluations, service level agreements, contract review, on-site reviews and in-house meetings.
- Adherence to firm regulatory obligations for segregation and security of client assets throughout the agent bank network.
- Internal co-ordination of agent performance standards.
- Agent service and tariff review negotiations.
- Current and in depth knowledge of markets and pre-investment information. Communication with internal and external clients to present and answer questions on market events.
- Communication with internal and external clients, including market presentations.
- Establishment of new agent relationships.
- Act as the point of escalation and point of resolution of agent performance issues on an ongoing basis, escalating issues as required with agents at all levels of the management chain. Communication of such issues internally.
- Understand, manage and influence contract negotiations between internal and external Legal Counsel.
- Understand process flows to be able to identify workflow and operational efficiencies.
- Understand and influence in the wider market / industry environment, actively participate in working groups where required to.
- Adherence to global standards of information storage and dissemination.

Skills Required:
- You will need diplomacy and accuracy in dealing with Traders, Brokers, Sales and focus clients.

- The pace of the desk demands that you complete each task quickly and accurately. You will be protecting our franchise and dealing with millions of dollars at risk. The ability to organise your time and complete each task on time will be a key factor in determining your suitability for the role.

- A high degree of accuracy and a willingness to learn new products is essential. This role is constantly changing and a willingness to adapt to new Firm and industry initiatives and put forward your own ideas is of paramount importance.

- You will operate these systems: Trend, STIX, STS, E-ticket and Mainframe. On the job training will be given to allow you to operate these in-house applications. An understanding of industry platforms such as MarkitWire, Reuters and Bloomberg is desirable.

- Daily deadlines are inflexible and the candidate should be organised to ensure the team meet all deadlines. The role requires the sharing and discussing of knowledge and information between the Trading, Sales, Settlements and Confirmations groups.

- You will be in constant communication with the Front Office, clients and many departments within the Bank. You should be accurate, knowledgeable and professional in all dealings with whomever you may meet.

- You will work closely with your peers and you will need to share knowledge and act as a team player to get the most out of this role.

 

Skills Desired:
- Fast learner who is an excellent communicator and has a high attention to detail.
- Good product knowledge of vanilla interest rate derivatives is preferable.
- Knowledge of derivative products and confirmation / settlement processes is desirable but training will be given on the job.
