University Information Technology is York’s central information technology services organization, created on July 1st through the merger of Computing and Network Services (CNS) and Finance and Administration Information Technology Services (ITS).

UIT exists to provide a wide range of information technology services to York’s faculty, staff and students in support of the University’s academic, research and administrative goals.

 

In this excellent full-time job opportunity the Intermediate Application Analyst/Developer will provide support for one or more of York’s enterprise systems. This includes identifying and analyzing business requirements, translating requirements to technical specifications, designing and developing solutions using appropriate development tools, ensuring that the systems are available and functioning efficiently, troubleshooting production problems, providing technical support to users, developing custom modules and systems, and modifying and upgrading software. The incumbent will develop resolutions to problems and new initiatives to meet the client's business needs. This includes the system development life cycle. Some involvement in web development for applications related to support systems. To work closely with clients and other team members to ensure appropriate data tables and elements are incorporated into the University wide reporting database and to ensure that production reporting jobs are functioning efficiently and effectively. To troubleshoot production problems and provide ongoing support to clients regarding efficient use of the query tools.

 

Knowledge:
Knowledge of programming languages, specifically C#, HTML with JavaScript, VB.NET, PowerBuilder and, PL/SQL. Knowledge of PeopleTools and/or BIRT would be an asset. Understand and utilize design analysis tools, including data flow diagrams. Some knowledge of UNIX and UNIX Scripts. Good knowledge of standard desktop applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Toad for Oracle.

 

Education:
University degree or equivalent in computer science.

Experience:
4-5 years I.T. related experience, which includes minimum 2 years programming and design. Experience with major relational databases (like DB2, Oracle or Sybase) required. Experience in working with ERP Systems such as PeopleSoft, Maximo, SunGard or Banner would be an asset.

 

Skills:
Good communication and writing skills in order to communicate technical ideas both verbally and in writing to technical and non- technical audiences, and to provide documentation of procedures. Good analytic and problem solving skills in order to resolve problems with the systems that are frequently unclear and complicated. Good interpersonal skills in working with clients to define business needs and resolve problems. Ability to work well with others in a team environment, but must also be able to work independently. Must be able to set priorities among competing demands and work under the pressure of high volume and unanticipated work loads. Good organizational skills; presentation and facilitative skills; proven ability to exercise good judgment and initiative. Ability to work with ill-defined Client specifications to access client’s requirements.
