Position Description

Serves under supervision for a specified period within the occupation and skill area that directly relates to their college engineering degree. Perform tasks associated with engineering, laboratory and factory production support for military rotorcraft programs including CH-47 Chinook and V-22 Osprey helicopters. Perform tasks associated with material processing and manufacturing technology to support composite component production, drive train and rotor system critical component fabrication and assembly, airframe assembly, integration and test and as part of the Materials Engineering and Manufacturing, Research and Development (MRD) organization. Use analytical problem solving skills to resolve material and process issues that affect cost, delivery, and/or performance. Interface with engineers, management, and technical staff to define and implement engineering solutions to meet objectives. Learn how the Materials Engineering and or Manufacturing Research and Development group works with other organizations (e.g. Design, Stress, Test, Production and Flight Test), and operates within a large company setting. Apply knowledge of metallics, composites, standards, and assembly including physical and mechanical properties, failure analysis of component fractures and disbonds, assembly, surface treatments, repair methods, and micro-structural, chemical, and dimensional evaluations. Apply knowledge to the structural and mechanical material/process disciplines in order to support the development, evaluation and production of aerospace components that meet engineering requirements.

Basic Qualifications For Consideration

Are you currently enrolled at a college or university studying in one of the following engineering programs (Materials Science, Chemical, Mechanical, Mechanical Engineering Technology or Manufacturing)?

Typical Education/Experience

High school diploma or GED.

Other Job related information

Must be in the process of receiving a B.S. or M.S. in Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Manufacturing Engineering. Must possess good foundation of knowledge for materials and processes, including aluminum, steel, titanium and fiber reinforced composites. Should possess working knowledge of typical material analysis laboratory equipment, and be able to enthusiastically learn analysis skills and procedures. Must be comfortable working in various environments including hands-on laboratory, factory shop support and professional office settings, and should the opportunity arise, to travel with engineers to various suppliers. Must possess good interpersonal, communication and multi-tasking skills, fluency with Microsoft Office Suite such as MS Word and Excel, and have strong technical writing background. Must be able to apply basic engineering and scientific principles to determine solutions to technical problems in support of a project leader.
