Investment Officer III

Duties include but are not limited to:

•  Direct responsibility and back-up responsibility for the oversight and monitoring of CalPERS’ U.S., international and emerging markets investment managers in established or future manager pools.  Oversight and monitoring includes performance, style guidelines, and operational issues, as well as items specified in the Unit’s manager monitoring checklist. 

•  Responsible for making asset reduction and termination recommendations on individual managers to the Portfolio Manager and Senior Portfolio Manager. 

•  Responsible for identifying and positioning insights from outside investment managers and strategic partners which will inform an aggregated Global Equity tilt. 

•  Responsible for research and special projects as assigned by the Portfolio Manager and Senior Portfolio Manager. Provides analysis needed to asset allocation and manager re-balancing decisions. 

Minimum Requirements and Experience:

• Equivalent to graduation from college preferably with major work in business administration, economics, finance, mathematics, or a closely related field.

• Five years of increasingly responsible investment analysis experience for a public agency or private financial institution, insurance company, pension fund, endowment fund, investment firm, real estate development and investment firm, or private corporation or entity having a major investment management program

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience working with and analyzing equity investment managers 

• Direct portfolio management experience

• Energetic team player, open minded and humble

• Strong educational background including quantitative skills

• Good oral and written communication skills

• Strong interest in fundamental investing

• Familiarity with FactSet, Barra and equity benchmarks is strongly preferred
