Investment Officer I/II

CalPERS seeks an Investment Officer I/II (IO I/II) to work under the general direction of the Portfolio Manager (PM) of Private Equity (PE). The IO I/II assigned to the position identified above demonstrates the CalPERS Core Values (Quality, Respect, Integrity, Openness, Accountability, and Balance), works well as a member of a team, and takes initiative in effectively performing the following functions:

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Processes and evaluates new limited partnership, co-investment, customized investment account, and direct investment opportunities

• Assists in the evaluation of investment opportunities by supporting the SIO, SPM and PM when building spreadsheets analyzing performance, creating presentations in PowerPoint summarizing key findings, scheduling in-person meetings, developing negotiation strategies, and managing the flow of documents

• Uses multiple sources of information about private equity firms such as Investment Overviews, Private Placement Memorandums and deal sheets to identify attractive investment opportunities

• Participates on project teams, helps with special initiatives, assists with requests from CalPERS executive management, and supports senior PE leadership with responses to CalPERS Investment Committee requests

Minimum Requirements and Experience:

Investment Officer I

• Equivalent to graduation from college preferably with major work in business administration, economics, finance, mathematics, or a closely related field

AND

• Six months of professional experience performing investment analysis

OR

• Completion of a student internship involving at least 500 hours of investment analysis work involving the management of a large equity, fixed income, real estate, and/or private equity portfolio OR

• Possession of a master's degree with major work in business administration, economics, finance, mathematics, or a closely related field

Investment Officer II

• Equivalent to graduation from college preferably with major work in business administration, economics, finance, mathematics, or a closely related field

• Three years of increasingly responsible investment analysis experience for a public agency or private financial institution, insurance company, pension fund, endowment fund, investment firm, real estate development and investment firm, or other private corporation or entity having a major investment management program

Desirable Qualifications:

• Excellent written and verbal communication.

• Functional with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Ability to quickly learn the Salesforce.com interface.

• Focuses on the details and ensures timely completion of quality deliverables.

• MBA or possession of an advanced degree in finance, accounting or other related field.

• Possession of a certification such as a CPA, CFA, CAIA, MFE, ASA/FSA is preferred.

• Fluency in another language.
