The Investment Officer I works under supervision performing the less complex analyses of relative value of investment grade and high yield bond investments. The incumbent also conducts analyses and research of domestic fixed income securities in order to assist in making investment recommendations and developing asset allocation strategies.
The Investment Officer II specializes in the analyses of relative value of investment grade and high yield bond investments. The incumbent also conducts analyses and research of domestic fixed income securities in order to formulate investment recommendations and asset allocation strategies.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Under direction, surveys market conditions in the fixed income investment grade and high yield sectors and analyzes securities in order to recommend securities to meet portfolio objectives
- Responsible for the new issue process, including monitoring deal progress, ensuring timely indications to the street on CalPERS’ interest in new deals and making recommendations to the PM, Trading to obtain the ideal bond allocation through the deal syndication process
- Tracks individual company trading levels across the maturity spectrum
- Identifies attractive bids or offers in order to implement trades at appropriate price levels
- Authority to execute trades to take advantage of relative value opportunities within the parameters defined by the PM, Trading
Desirable Qualifications:
- Prior experience with trading fixed income credit bonds
- MBA or possession of an advanced degree in finance or another applicable technical field
- Professional certification such as CPA, CFA, MFE, ASA/FSA
- Attention to detail
- Computer programming and data mining abilities
- MS Suite experience, particularly Excel experience
- Ability to work independently and under short time constraints
