Investment Officer – Tangible Assets recruitment
This position will be filled at either the Investment Officer or Assistant Senior Investment Officer level, depending upon qualifications of the candidate selected. The position objective is ongoing selection, management, and monitoring of tangible asset investments consistent with the statutes, regulations, Board policies and the highest standard of professional and ethical conduct for the exclusive benefit of WSIB beneficiaries. Assists the Senior Investment Officer – Tangible Assets (SIO) in prudently deploying the allocation the Board has established for Tangible Assets, and implementing the plans and objectives for the unit to create a well-diversified, and well-performing portfolio.
Essential Activities:
Reviews potential investments for possible inclusion in the Tangible Assets portfolio; process involves the entire array of robust due diligence efforts which includes general investment overview, document review, financial structure analysis, meetings with management, and preparation/presentation of findings and conclusions to the internal investment committee following approval by the SIO.
- Recommends investments to the Board after an extensive due diligence and research process.
- Oversees existing investment manager relationships.
- Performs economic, industry, and sector research.
- Prepares verbal and written reports for the Investment Committee and Board as required.
- Assists the SIO – Tangible Assets in creating an overall tangible assets portfolio strategy.
- Assists the SIO in the creation of innovative investment programs in areas overlooked by traditional capital providers.
- Performs all initial research and due diligence necessary to educate staff and the Board relative to non-traditional tangible assets investments.
- Assists in development and monitoring of appropriate policies for the portfolio and managers.
- National and/or international travel
desired Qualifications:
Assistant Senior Investment Officer – Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree coupled with significant experience
- Five years tangible assets investment experience including infrastructure, natural resources such as oil and gas, minerals and mining, water, and agriculture including timberlands, preferable in an institutional investment setting.
- Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) strongly preferred
Investment Officer – Required:
- Four years of tangible assets investment experience
- A relevant Master’s degree and/or CFA/CAIA certification may substitute for a maximum of two years experience
*Experience must involve management of investments other than
one’s personal portfolio
