The Interventional Radiology (IVR) Clinical Specialist is responsible for the accurate and complete scheduling, chart preparation, and verification and pre-authorization of insurance benefits for scheduled Interventional radiology patients prior to the scheduled date of service. The IVR Clinical Specialist will use a variety of electronic and other means to gather and verify demographic and insurance information, including contacting patients, insurance companies and referring physicians when necessary. Responsibilities include performing various administrative and clerical duties required to support these functions. Essential Responsibilities. 

 

·        Organizes, prioritizes, and monitors daily work activity to ensure that complete, accurate, and compliant chart preparation and insurance authorization has been performed prior to expected visit whenever possible.

·        Contact the patient/guarantor by phone when necessary to schedule procedure and obtain or verify all demographic and insurance information, making updates or corrections as appropriate.

·        Maintains acceptable accuracy and productivity rates. Documents all information in the appropriate system fields and/or account notes.

·        Assure that all pre-certification requirements are met on a timely basis. Assures notation has been made of authorization number and follows up on missing authorizations. Contacts patient and advises them of their financial responsibility 24 hours prior to service when authorization cannot be obtained.

·        Prepares the patient chart, including all necessary pre-procedure testing, History Physicals, consent, and physician’s order in preparation for the patient’s arrival.

·        Works with the CRC physician, referring physician office staff, and insurance companies. Additionally acts as a liaison between the facility and patient/family to resolve problems, and to address complaints. Responds to questions/concerns regarding insurance or procedure.

 

Required Educational Background: 

·        High School Diploma required, medical assistant or other clinical related education preferred

·        Clinical scheduling or registration experience preferred

·        Data entry and/or PC experience required

·        Medical terminology coursework or knowledge required

·        Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required.
