Junior Oracle DBA/Application Administrator Job in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Us
BROAD FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION:
The Database Administrator will be a service oriented individual responsible for the administration, support and maintenance of multiple Oracle and SQL Server databases. This position will report to the DBA team lead.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Database performance monitoring and tuning:
- Closely monitor performance, identify problems and implement solutions;
- Ensure the database is running at optimum speed and efficiency.
Application support:
- Resolve problems and answer questions related to the RDMS and platform environment;
- Contact vendor support when necessary;
- Facilitate application development and client problem resolution with optimum speed and efficiency.
Maintain database backup/recovery environment:
- Respond quickly to data refresh requests, verify implementation of correct backup and recovery strategy, support recovery from loss of data caused by user or system.
- Keep databases at current release and maintenance levels; Install monthly security patches and supporting products.
- Reorganize database structures, utilizing Oracle tools to reorganize or defragment database table spaces, provide efficient database environment to maximize productivity and improve performance.
- Capacity planning - monitor file system space, reclaim/optimize space allocation and avoid out-of-space conditions.
- Ensure standardization of systems and methods: support techniques, and adherence to change control and best practices.
- Provide 24 X 7 support on a periodic basis. Quickly identify and resolve any production database issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline; equivalent experience acceptable.
Years of Experience: Four or more years experience as an Oracle DBA. One or more years of Microsoft SQL Server DBA is also desirable.
Other Knowledge/Experience that may apply:
* Understanding and experience with Oracle 10g, 11g, OEM, Datapump and RMAN.
* Ability to monitor and tune databases to meet application needs.
* Experience in installing, patching and upgrading Oracle 10g and 11g database environments.
* Experience in designing, modeling, developing, and supporting large Data Warehouse databases.
* Strong diagnostic and problem solving ability.
* Experience with SQL, triggers and PL/SQL, including programming and ways to optimize SQL code.
* Experience with Unix shell scripting languages.
* Enthusiastic, hard working, independent, and self motivated.
* Ability to work well in a team environment.
