Laboratory Supervisor (H) Job in Paterson 07501, New Jersey US

Perform laboratory tests.  Supervise and assist team to assure efficiency and quality.  This position routinely requires 50% or more bench work.

The ideal candidate will have experience in Hematology, Parasitology, and Chemistry testing.  Candidates with Supervisory or leadership experience are highly preferred.

This is a 1st shift position, with hours Monday-Friday and every other Saturday from 10am-6:30pm.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Maintain working knowledge of department standard operating procedures (SOPs)

·         Be able to perform all routine testing and analyses of client specimens within department

·         Reject samples and reassign testing based on IDEXX standards

·         Monitor workflow to ensure client turnaround times (TATs) are met

·         Ensure that all logs are recorded according to IDEXX standards

·         Monitor, analyze, review and sign all department quality control (QC) documentation

·         Train new laboratory staff

·         Update staff training records

·         Ensure equipment is maintained and calibrated

·         Maintain and monitor service of instruments used in department

·         Maintain supply of reagents and consumables needed by department

·         Performance management including coaching/counseling and performance reviews

·         Investigate complaints and incidents within department

·         Writing performance reviews of department staff

·         Responsible for scheduling department staff

·         Assist in development and management of financial budget requirements

·         Provide business review information to Lab Manager

·         Assist in personnel management including recruiting, hiring, training, disciplinary/corrective action, terminations and overall performance management

·         Understand, follow, and enforce IDEXX laboratory safety procedures

·         Understand, follow, and enforce IDEXX quality control procedures

·         Basic understanding and following of concepts of LEAN and 5S

·         Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

 

Education:  Vet tech, MLT, MT, HT or military lab specialist

Experience:

·         Minimum 2 years relevant IDEXX laboratory experience or 4 years equivalent education and experience

·         Supervisory experience preferred

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

·         Knowledge of GCP guidelines as appropriate

·         Solid communication skills

·         Relevant computer program skills

·         Demonstrated skills in leadership effectiveness, teamwork, versatility and strong work ethics

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  This job classification requires that the applicant be capable of standing continuously for up to 2 hours, sitting, lifting up to 40 pounds, carrying up to 40 pounds, reaching, speaking, seeing, and hearing. This job classification also involves repetitive use of the hands, wrists, and arms. Applicants must be able to meet the minimum dexterity requirements of the position.
