Eaton Corporation - Hydraulics Business has an immediate opening for a Senior Product Engineer within our Power Motion Controls Product Division located in Eden Prairie, MN.

This product engineer will work with our steering product line to plan, conduct and assume responsibility for one or more major engineering projects or several minor projects in full consideration of earliest completion, available resources and within budget constraints.

Job Responsibilities to include:
A. Develop new products or revisions to existing products to meet market needs, profitability goals, reliability requirements and manufacturing capability in accordance with standard development practices.

B. Initiate project plans, which include the scheduled actions and the resources required to meet the project objectives. Execute projects according to the established plan.

C. Write effective test requests for technicians to execute. Analyze results and clearly summarize the findings in technical reports.

D. Perform and document design calculations and verify all necessary tolerance stack ups for new designs and design revisions. Conduct product design reviews and follow through on recommended changes.

E. Work with manufacturing engineers and supply chain managers to assure manufacturability, cost effectiveness and reliability of the assigned product lines.

F. Maintain product design control, initiate and follow through on Engineering changes, and verify all documentation of new designs or design changes is complete.

G. Maintain close liaison with the manufacturing function during the introduction and development of new products. Resolve design related production problems. Disposition material that does not conform to product specifications.

H. Maintain close liaison with the sales and marketing functions and end customers, as related to application reviews, new product requirements, modifications of existing products, customer prototype qualification test requirements and resolving product performance deficiencies.

I. Resolve product performance issues through team oriented problem solving and document according to the 8D process.

J. Initiate the generation of new ideas and document them appropriately for possible patent protection or to reserve as trade secrets.

K. Initiate and maintain the Potential Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) related to new and existing products.

L. Maintain professional education through training opportunities in the field of his/her expertise.

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and 3 years of full time work experience OR Master’s Degree in engineering from an accredited institution required
• Must be eligible to work in the United States on an on-going basis without sponsorship

Position Criteria:
• Develop a thorough understanding of the prevailing manufacturing methodology and processes used for the assigned product lines and their relationships to the design and reliability criteria, established by the engineering product specifications.
• A working knowledge of engineering administration, pertaining to project reporting on progress, costs and other criteria.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
• Master of Science Degree in an Engineering discipline from an accredited institution
• Knowledge of fluid power components and/or systems is a plus
• Ability to use math models that have been created for fluid power components and/or systems, for further work in computer-aided-engineering (CAE) and/or finite-element-analysis is a plus
