Laboratory Manager

Our company has been in business since 1868 and our solid growth has given us the opportunity to open an additional manufacturing plant, our first in the Omaha area.  This is your chance to get in on the ground floor of a company with lots of upward mobility as we plan to staff the plant with up to 70 people in the next 9 months. This is a full time position.


Position Summary

The Laboratory Manager is responsible for all laboratory functions and will manage the activities performed by the lab chemists.  This position reports directly to the Quality Assurance Manager at the plant.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·         Ensure that lab equipment is maintained and all SOP’s are documented and followed to support GLP.

·         Keep current on technical developments, EPA and FDA requirements as they relate to the companies products.

·         Conduct proper tests and evaluations on all ingredients and finished products produced in the plant as well as products from contract manufacturers.

·         Works closely with operations to support production schedule by making sure product approvals are completed timely and before they are required by production.

·         Diagnoses equipment malfunctions and performs necessary repairs.

·         Develops validated methods for laboratory experimentation.

·         Evaluates and implements PPE used in production and in the lab.

·         Develops and implements all lab procedures.

·         Manages and prioritizes all projects and requests from consultants and corporate departments.

·         Performs RD testing and evaluation of ingredients and products.

·         Assist Quality Assurance Manager and Plant Manager with projects, operational issues and opportunities.

·         Assist Quality Assurance Manager with incoming quality control.

·         Maintain all records required for a GLP lab.

·         Conducts employee reviews for all lab personnel.

 

 

Knowledge and Skills

·         Bachelor’s degree in a science field required, chemistry preferred.  Master’s degree preferred.

·         5 yrs of laboratory experience, 2 years of experience in an EPA or FDA plant desired.

·         Strong skills in MS Word and Excel.

·         Strong working knowledge of general lab practices and wet chemistry.

·         Proactive problem solving skills.

·         Manage employees with respect and integrity to achieve production and quality goals.

·         Requires the ability to act independently as well as support a team to accomplish critical and timely objectives.

·         Superior communication skills.

·         Ability to communicate with Corporate Departments, Consultants, plant personnel and industry personnel.

·         Flexibility/adaptability and ability to multitask.

·         Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis.

·         Requires frequent standing and walking on a regular basis.
