Qualifications:

General Function:
Primary: Conduct acoustical and physical testing on a variety of ceiling panel types for certification activities, quality control, and research in a safe and responsible manner. Activity will include installation of ceiling panels, conducting tests, calibrating test equipment and a variety of related training and certification activities.
Secondary: Assist the New Product Development and other RD activities of the Ceilings group by accompanying one or more engineers/technologists to the various manufacturing plants to perform project work as directed. May recommend test procedure additions or revisions for review.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Test acoustical properties of ceiling panels, report results, maintain database
Test physical properties of ceiling panels, report results
Attend acoustical and other training, conduct certification activity
Provide technical assistance to the Ceilings RD group at the various manufacturing locations

Problem Solving:
Must be able to think logically and analyze issues such as unexpected test results, minor computer or audio equipment problems. Some of the test results must meet third-party reporting criteria and be forwarded to outside agencies such as UL, which require specific procedures and quality control programs to be followed. Ideally, minor issues will be handled by rigidly following procedure, and paying close attention to detail. In some cases, a supervisor or peer will need to be consulted without hesitation.

Knowledge:
Requires a high school education and a minimum of two years college or vocational/technical school. One to three years laboratory experience is a plus. Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Excel and Word. PowerPoint and Access knowledge are a plus. Must demonstrate math and basic statistics skills. Must be able to communicate effectively.

Comments:
Must be able to work in a safe, responsible and independent manner. Must be able to lift and handle cartons of ceiling panels, use a ladder to install ceiling panels in 10-ft ceilings, and lift pails of liquid weighing approximately 40 pounds. Must be able to operate a forklift truck as required. Travel requirements can be 3-10% depending on the amount of training activity, especially in the first two years, and the amount of time required by division engineers to assist with specific activities at the various manufacturing locations.
