Job Description SUMMARY : ? Performs recycling material processing packaging. ? Assists in scrap metal yard, operation segregation, and processing. ? Assists with recycle center operations. ? Operates recycling processing equipment (i.e. forklift, bobcat, 2 ½ ton truck, fiber-sort and bailer). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : · Empties refuse containers into refuse trucks manually. · Inspects trash and containers while emptying into trucks. · Loads refuse into trucks, operates rear compactor controls, and empties refuse at landfill. · Assists the refuse operators with all required tasks, cleaning and maintenance equipment, policing up trash. Supplementary Functions May Include : · Assists operators in placement of containers for collection. · Performs repair and maintenance of refuse containers. · Participates in specific safety training and ensures safe working conditions in all operations. · May perform duties of other laborer classifications. JOB PREREQUISITES/QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS : Educational Equivalent : Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Experience : Laborer or trash collection work helpful. Licenses : ? Must possess a valid California Drivers License. ? Ability to obtain forklift, bobcat and 2 ½ ton truck certification within thirty (30) days of hire date. Skills Required : ? Demonstrated capability to perform assigned laborer tasks as required. ? Demonstrated capability to perform limited maintenance on vehicles and tools to include checking engine/brakes/fuel/tires/water. Communication Skills : Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English. Physical/Mental Abilities Required : ? Ability to use good judgment and common sense when performing job functions. ? Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. ? Ability to lift 45 lbs. ? Ability to wear required safety equipment and clothing. ? Ability to be punctual. ? Must have Hepatitis B shot series. WORKING CONDITIONS : Position: Frequent exposure to dust from moving wheel vehicles and equipment and exhaust vapors from idling engines. May also be exposed to refuse, water, wastewater (treated and untreated), and various chemicals, solvents, oil, paint, and other agents used in equipment and facilities maintenance. Work Week: 5 days a weeks, days off can vary Work Hours: 0700-1530 or 1000 to 1830 Overtime: Frequently Travel Required: Yes, within Fort Irwin EQUIPMENT/TOOLS USED : Some of the equipment and/or tools that may be used include: hand tools, forklift, bobcat, 2 ½ ton truck and janitorial equipment (mops, brooms, and squeegees) Pay Rate: $11.74 hr.
