Landfill Accountant II

Job Description Prepares moderately complex journal entries for entry into the general ledger system on a monthly or quarterly basis by collecting necessary data, analyzing and/or allocating costs and preparing audit train support for the journal entries. Analyzes general ledger accounts for accuracy; analyzes accrual accounts to ensure proper accruals. Supports the reconciliation of various landfill balance sheets and analysis of related landfill-related income statement activities. Provides guidance to other Finance personnel for proper internal and external financial accounting procedures and their application related to landfill accounting. Work with the field accounting organization to ensure proper use of landfill accounts and verification of monthly landfill metrics Process changes to the Company's fixed asset records for changes in landfill estimates Assists with the maintenance and application of internal controls by supporting Landfill Accounting Manager with the SOX 404 review responsibilities. Support the Landfill Accounting Manager in special projects: Support other Landfill Accounting personnel in quarterly / annual processes including: annual review of landfill cost and operational estimates; quarterly review of landfill expansions; quarterly review of landfill asset retirement obligations (capping and closure/post closure); quarterly impairment analyses; Prepares moderately complex financial reports in a timely and accurate manner; and completes individual analytical projects in a satisfactory manner given abstract project guidelines.
