Description: Job Title: Lead Field Technician Job Code: HITS12111037 Job Location: Anchorage, AK Job Description: Job Responsibilities: Under general supervision, performs installation, maintenance and repairs to a wide variety of telecommunications systems, equipment, cabling, and to other related systems and equipment. Performs other related work as required. This is a support level position requiring a thorough knowledge of the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications related systems and/or equipment, gained through formal education or from considerable and varied experience in working with the installation, service activation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunication systems and devices. Ability to repair and test telecommunications related systems and equipment; operate related tools and equipment; install and operate related computer systems; troubleshoot and repair microprocessor based control and communication equipment; diagnose electronic failures to the component level; interpret electrical codes and regulations; maintain accurate records and prepare reports; communicate effectively; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other contractor employees and the customer. Responsible for the installation, repair, configuration and preventative maintenance of personal computers, network equipment, and/or telecommunications equipment. Exhibits an understanding of engineering application configurations and integration with the desktop. Proficient in Microsoft or UNIX operating systems, and the components of the MS Office Suite. Answers internal inquiries and troubleshoots software and hardware failures either in person or on the phone. Performs hardware / software moves, adds, and changes (MAC). Ensures systems and related equipment are in working condition. Maintains records on repairs, down time, changes and updates. In addition to the experience requirements and demonstrated performance of the position, employee should be able to assist and train others in the required tools and processes of the functional area. Acts as the subject matter expert regarding functional area processes and protocols. May be the point of contact for and/or direct the work of Level A, B, and C individuals. Requires extensive knowledge in specialized functions. A wide and comprehensive understanding of both general and specific aspects and the technical phases of the job and their practical application to complex problems and situations ordinarily encountered. A wide variety of duties requiring a general knowledge of related organization policies and procedures and their application to cases not previously covered. Duties require considerable judgment to work independently toward general results; to devise new or modify/adapt existing methods, techniques and procedures to meet new or unusual requirements; and to make related decisions controlled by precedent and within limits of established policies. Minimal supervision- Work may be done without established procedures. Computer Knowledge and Skills: Perform basic software troubleshooting and diagnostics, Serve as the point of contact for unresolved problems from the Help Desk, Install hardware and software including operating system and office applications, Responsible for providing computer hardware, software and network technical support to end-users, Assists with setup and configuration of system hardware and software. Use Microsoft Office suite Network Knowledge and Skills: Good working knowledge of cable connectors and replacement, such as RJ-11, RJ-45, DB-25, V. 35, RS-449 Have a excellent working knowledge of fiber, working knowledge of Multiplexes, Network topology, Frame Relay, Fractional T-1, SONET Network Technology, ATM, Private Line, Voice and Data applications Must be proficient in using a laptop to set configurations on equipment such as Cisco routers and other components of an IP Network. Implementing software changes (Upload, Download SW Regression) Installing new software and hardware into various devices such as PCs, Cisco Routers, Sun servers, etc. Familiar with configuration and operation of the Eastern Research DNX, PSX, ISP and LPM products. Familiar with configuration and operation of the Cisco 3662, 3725, 3745, 2950, 4215, 8850s Familiar with configuration and operation of the Sun Microsystems. Familiar with configuration and operation of the Harris Intraplex Chassis and channel cards a plus. Good working knowledge of power testing, AD and DC including 3 Phase AC. Familiar with configuration and operation of the 24VDC 48 VDC power supplies. Experience with network and circuit testing with T1 Testing Specifications, DS3 Testing, Digital Testing (BERT), and Analog VG Testing within Bell Core Standards. Working knowledge and usage of the Ameritech AM5XT, Sage 935, Digital O-scope, Halcyon 704A, Para-scope or other T1/DS3 Test sets. Be responsive to callouts and periodic on call availability including working with centralized control centers. Other Skills: Willingness and/or ability to work outside regularly scheduled hours to meet operational needs and to respond to after-hours emergency calls as required.
