ALSTOM Power Inc., a global leader and provider of power generation products and services is seeking a Lead Generator Winder to join their Field Services department. This remote based position is responsible for directing winders performing the inspection, repair, replacement, installation and maintenance of all mechanical and electrical components in turbine generators or related equipment with emphasis on rotor and stator windings.
This position requires the ability to travel 100% with short notice to domestic and international assignments in power plant locations to include the continental U.S., Canada, Mexico, Switzerland, South America, Asia and the UK.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Oversees and gives direction to other Generator Winders on the project
- Ensures work is performed in accordance with all safety requirements
- Rewinds generator stators to include:
- Removing old slot wedges and windings
- Cleaning and repairing stator core laminations
- Installing new windings side fillers to meet side clearance criteria
- Installing slot wedging to meet tightness criteria
- Installing and tying endwinding blocking
- Brazing of series phase connections
- Rewinds generator rotors to include:
- Setting up equipment for rotor runout readings
- Induction heating of large shrunk-on components for removal
- Removing slot wedging
- Unbrazing and removing existing copper windings and connectors
- Sandblasting of rotor forging and other reused components
- Installing windings and connectors with new insulation materials
- Brazing connections between turns and coils
- Heating reinstallation of shrunk-on components
- Apply insulating tapes with epoxy resins
- Works with site specific tooling to include bandsaws, chop saws, die grinders and high frequency induction brazing heating machines
- Mixes epoxies and resins according to specific recipes
- Machines, cuts or drills epoxy/fiberglass plates, sheets and blocks
- Sets up and performs generator electrical tests (Megger, DLRO, Polarization Index, AC DC Hi-Pot)
- Prepares daily reports
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent GED
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Minimum 5 years experience performing disassembly/reassembly work on generators in either industrial or utility power plants. Including large scale electrical components such as transformers, motors and generators.
- Excellent knowledge of all materials and epoxies used in complete generator stator and rotor rewinds.
- Skilled with the operation of band saws, chop saws, grinders, sanders, brazing torches and induction brazing and heating machines.
- Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and specifications provided by Lead TFA
- Ability to install all blocking and ties required for stator and rotor rewinds
- Ability to install stator slot wedging and stator slot side filling
- Capable of brazing connections in stator or field winding
- Ability to perform basic tests such as Megger, DLRO and read various other types of meters.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision to complete full stator, and field rewinds.
- Working knowledge of personal computers and the Microsoft operating system and Office® (Word, Excel, Lotus Notes).
- Familiarity with Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Lotus Notes and word a plus.
- Strong organization and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Good time management skills
- Good interpersonal skills.
- A self-starter who can operate with minimal instruction.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid passport.
- Ability to work non-standard schedules at any location with possible varying environmental conditions required
- Ability to manage company and personal expenses as required.
- Ability to travel to assignments domestically and internationally with short notice for extended periods
- Ability to manage and maintain electronic communication with office while home or on site assignment
- Ability to pass a pre-hire background check, drug screening and physical exam required
- Ability to receive a Transportation Worker Identification Credential, (TWIC™).
- Authorization to work in the US without any further action from an employer required
- Ability to travel up to 100%
