LEGAL COUNSEL – FIXED TERM CONTRACT recruitment
Description:
Our client, a leading LLP firm is currently seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join their Glasgow based team, initially on a 9 month contract. The successful individual will Report to the Senior Legal Counsel, playing a key role in the identification and management of legal and risk issues across the firm. The primary focus of this role will be drafting and reviewing commercial contracts although there is an expectation that the role will also involve an element of claims prevention and management as and when required.
Core Responsibilities:
- Ensuring a professional, efficient and consistent Legal Risk (L R) service is provided to the firm, promoting best practice and a collegiate approach.
- Identifying, managing and mitigating legal risk issues across the firm.
- Ensuring that the firm complies with legislation, regulation and the requirements of professional bodies and other organisations, including interpreting the effect on the firm of any proposed changes to legislation.
- Assisting with the provision of preventative legal guidance and risk training to the firm.
- Responsibility for specific aspects of larger projects/initiatives or for smaller projects/initiatives in their entirety, as required.
- Making recommendations/drafting formal legal responses to issues
- Keeping abreast of commercial law changes and draft best practice notes on topical issues for use across the firm.
- Providing legal support in relation to the entering into of contracts with the firm’s clients (including client engagement letters and business tenders) and third party suppliers.
- Assisting with the development of team and firm wide legal and risk strategy, as appropriate.
- Dealing with a variety of legal matters, including assisting with claims management and prevention.
- Adhering to the firm’s Information Security standards, policies and procedures

Core Requirements:
- UK legal qualification or equivalent.
- Experience in dealing with the revising, drafting and negotiating general commercial contracts (including IT and ebusiness contracts).
- Experience in managing and responding to potential complaints and/or claims in relating to pensions schemes.
- Experience in managing and responding to queries and/or potential complaints involving The Pension Advisory Service, The Pensions Ombudsman and/or the Financial Ombudsman Service.
- Able to transform legal issues into workable solutions within a business context.
- Relevant practice based and/or in-house experience.
- Exposure to the pensions industry and to an FSA regulated environment.
- Awareness of change management techniques and of different leadership styles and approaches.
