Macquarie Funds Group (MFG) is Macquarie Group's funds management business. MFG is a full-service asset manager, offering a diverse range of capabilities and products including infrastructure and real asset management, securities investment management and structured access to funds, equity-based products and alternative assets. The group had $A347 billion in assets under management as at 31 March 2013.
MFG has been managing assets for pension funds, institutions and retail investors since 1980 in Australia and 1929 in the US (through Delaware Investments). MFG has global reach, with a team of over 1,400 staff located in over 20 countries including Australia, Asia, the UK, Europe and the US. MFG has the following business divisions:
- Macquarie Investment Management
- Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets
- Macquarie Specialised Investment Solutions
The MFIC Division of MFG is a growing and profitable business. It manages over AUD$30 billion in a diverse range of investment strategies and asset classes including:
- Credit;
- Australian domestic and global fixed interest;
- Passive and dynamic hedging, and active currency;
- Cash; and
- Diversified strategies.
The MFIC team manages investment solutions for a range of clients – ranging from the largest institutional investors to retail investors. The successful applicant will be working closely with all London based investment professionals and will also liaise with Sydney investment professional on overnight execution orders.
The MFIC London team is looking for an Assistant Portfolio manager to join the existing team of investment professionals in London. The successful applicant will have primary responsibility for executing trades across a wide range of fixed income, credit and associated derivatives. In addition, the person will be responsible for maintaining and developing counterparty relationships for the purpose of trade execution. They will also assist with portfolio monitoring, adjustment and conveying market intelligence to the portfolio managers. The role will entail:
- Portfolio Management:
- Trade execution and processing;
- Assisting with managing of portfolio risk and adjusting that risk;
- Implementing portfolio hedges and managing cash flow impacts upon the portfolio;
- Communication
- Maintain strong communication with the portfolio management team across the globe;
- Maintain counterparty relationships and creating new ones where applicable;
- Performance Reporting:
- Investigating and reconciling any differences in the performance reported by fund accounting;
- Writing market commentary.
The successful candidates will have:
- Experience in executing a range of fixed income, credit (particularly European) and associated derivative securities is essential.
- Experience in assessing the relative value of fixed income instruments across curves, currencies and issuers is advantageous.
- Knowledge of the Sterling and European fixed income markets including trading market conventions.
- Good communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task
- A strong level of drive, initiative, commitment, and dedication;
- A demonstrable track record of using unconventional and creative solutions to solve problems; and
- The ability to develop strong relationships across the business.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (finance related, CFA candidacy or qualification highly regarded) with an exceptional academic record.
