The UK Internal Control Oversight (ICO) team are responsible for ensuring that the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOx) are met in respect of the management assessment of the internal controls and the senior officers’ certifications by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) of Deutsche Bank.
The UK ICO team is also responsible for overseeing the Management Review Process (MRP) in the UK entities. MRP is a key constituent of the processes relied upon by senior management to provide an assurance that the financial statements are properly stated and that the components of the balance sheet can be substantiated.
The key objectives of MRP are to:
- Escalate issues or potential control weaknesses to senior management
- Improve and focus communication between the functional areas
- Challenge the substantiation of the related balance sheet accounts
- Enable Senior Management in Finance to review and monitor the control environment for the detailed transaction flows across all business areas, to their respective accounting records
Key Responsibilities
The UK ICO Team consists of four staff primarily focused on the MRP and three within the SOx group.
You will have responsibilities within MRP for a subset of businesses, and will assist in the preparation of key Monthly Management Information (MI) for senior management. You will be expected to understand the businesses and their processes, and as a part of the preparation for the monthly reviews you will need to consider the output from other sources, for example reports from internal audit, statutory audit, regulators, operational risk and other loss reports.
In addition you will be assisting the group in the continual optimization of its SOx compliance framework.
Your day to day responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing the monthly MRP results for your business areas - The account owners are responsible for recording the MRP results for their areas. The MRP Team reviews these results to identify potential issues to examine in greater detail and to consider for escalation to the Chief Financial Officer.
- Reporting the results of the MRP to senior Finance management in the UK - The UK Team formally report the MRP results to the EMEA Chief Financial Officer, Global Head of MRP, and the Head of UK Financial Reporting.
- Following up on open issues in the businesses - It is the responsibility of the businesses to resolve open issues. The MRP Team will monitor these issues to closure and report the progress to the Chief Financial Officer.
- Assisting in the continued optimization of the Sox compliance framework.
Candidate requirements
You will have:
- Prior Product or Financial Control experience
- A solid understanding of the general front to back processes and internal controls that exist within Investment Banking
- Good communication and team spirit.
You will be:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- A Qualified Accountant
- A competent user of Excel, Word, Powerpoint and will have knowledge of Access and / or COGNOS (preferable).
- Confident in interacting with stakeholders of all levels.
