Manager Credit and Risk Management Job in Calgary, Alberta Canada
Our client, in the agriculture industry, is seeking a Manager Credit and Risk Management to join their team on a permanent basis. This position is accountable for implementing and managing risk management policies and programs and is also responsible for the management of the North America credit and overall administration of the finance and credit portfolios for the division’s operations.
Responsibilities Include:
- Develops, implements and manages risk policies and procedures to ensure effective risk management
- Administers the divisional credit policy which includes the review and subsequent approval of credit applications to an assigned credit limit approval level and to review applications for subsequent approval by senior management under established approval authorities
- Facilitates the identification of risks throughout North America
- Develops, reports and monitors formats on risk management issues and develops methodology for the assessment of risk throughout North America
- Recommends risk limits for credit customers, commodity positions and outside warehousing inventory levels
- Communicates with all levels of management regarding risk to the company
- Provides regular and ad hoc reports to management regarding risk to the company
- Manages the collection of account receivables, including the assignment of accounts to external agencies, the negotiation of rates, the approval of legal action, the negotiation of settlements, and the recommendation of bad debt write-offs
- Manages the accounts receivable system, including maintenance of customer accounts, and generation of Management Information Reports, the maintenance of customer credit files, and the reconciliation of the accounts receivable sub ledgers to the general ledger
- Recommends the criteria for purchasing insurance
- Manages the insurance claims process and the process for updating insured values for company policy renewals
- Monitors developments in industry risk procedures and practices and changes in legal requirements
- Serves as the company's representative at various risk management meetings and associations
- Hires, promotes and discharges staff within company policy, and provides for effective staff development in accordance with department requirements
- Creates an environment that fosters teamwork and continuous improvement
- Performs other duties as required
Qualifications Include:
- Fellowship of Credit Institute (FCI) designation through the Credit Institute of Canada, supplemented with a minimum of 5 - 7 years progressively responsible credit and collection experience, a minimum of 3 - 5 years which have been in a managerial/supervisory capacity
- Demonstrated analytical skills in the assessment of risk
- Computer competent, with demonstrated ability in the use of word processing, spreadsheet and database software applications within a Windows based operating environment
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of applicable credit and collection regulations
- Proven oral, written and listening communication skills
- Proven ability to lead and manage staff within a team environment
- Strong organizational skills
- Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and decision making abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of the grain and farm supply business
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts
- Travel is required
