Manager - Retirement Plan Compliance Services (JG 19)

VALIC is currently seeking an experienced leader to join our Institutional Services Management Team here in Houston, TX. As a Manager of this team of Retirement Plan experts you will be a strategic part of delivering a suite of products, services and technology to our clients that exceed their expectations and help their employees enjoy a secure retirement.

Position Summary:
The Retirement Plan Compliance Services Manager provides direction and leadership for a team of compliance administrators that perform individual and group level testing for Defined Contribution Retirement plans and preparation of Form 5500. This position overseas the day to day workflow and ensures all regulatory and departmental deadlines are met. This position works with the compliance administrators to resolve plan testing issues with high touch, high profile clients.

Organizational Structure:
This position reports to the Associate Director of VALIC Institutional Services and has 9 direct reports. Each direct report carries an average case load of approximately 25 Defined Contribution plans and is responsible for providing the annual compliance testing and Form 5500 as required per plan. This position will collaborate with other managers throughout the organization as well as interact with VALIC field management.

Performance Objectives:
- Provide leadership, direction and support to staff members regarding exception cases, escalations, best practices, and legal/regulatory guidelines/changes
- Productivity/Quality - oversee the timely completion of compliance testing and Form 5500-s with 100% accuracy and monitor all projects and /or maintenance activities to ensure they are completed on schedule.
- Business Knowledge - Provide input for workflow and system enhancements to increase the efficiency and quality of work generated by the compliance teams
- Identify and develop growth opportunities for direct reports to consistently raise the bar in team performance

Position Requirements
The Ideal Candidate Should Have:
- Bachelor-s degree in a business related field and 2-3 years prior experience managing teams in an operations environment
- Ability to lead and facilitate conference calls with group clients and field partners on compliance testing, plan documents and plan design issues
- Demonstrated experience in prioritizing multiple deadlines and allocating resources effectively in a fast paced dynamic environment
- Strong skills in assessing the root cause of issues, determining all viable options and problem solving to a timely resolution
- Aggressively address issues and expectations for the team to ensure proactive follow-up / follow-thru of regulatory updates and group issues
- Ability to build strong working relationships with clients and internal business partners
- Knowledge of ASC (Actuarial Systems Corp.) and RELIUS is a plus
