Manager – Tax Advisory
BACKGROUND
· This role will be part of the Business Unit Tax Advisory group in NY
· Role offers diverse exposure to US federal and international tax issues working on new transactions and businesses across the Macquarie Group
CLIENT CONTACT
· Work closely with the executives from the Business Units at both junior and senior levels
· Work closely with Business Unit finance teams
· Brief external tax advisors in order to obtain written advice and opinions
· Part of a NY-based team that covers the Americas, ex-Canada
RESPONSIBILITIES
Providing federal tax support in relation to transactions by or within the Macquarie Group involving the Americas Region. This will include the following:
Ø Supporting and working with senior and junior members of the Business Unit Tax Advisory Group on both business unit issues and transactions and central tax issues
Ø Researching a broad range of substantive tax issues, including consolidated return rules, international tax (with a focus on inbound), subchapter C, withholding and reporting, and fielding questions from the business and the Tax Reporting Team relating to tax reporting issues
Ø Preparation of internal memoranda regarding tax analysis and tax positions
Ø Liaison with the business areas and Tax Reporting and Finance teams in relation to various transactions and central tax issues that arise on a day to day basis
Ø Working with external advisors on transactions and obtaining local (non-US) tax advice related to the Americas ex-Canada
Ø Communicate and liaise with other global tax members on new balance sheet transactions involving cross border dealings
Ø Assist with responding to revenue authority queries where required in audit and review situations
Ø Assist in the review and preparation of statements and notices
Ø Review and negotiate the tax provisions in ordinary course of business agreements (loan agreements, purchase agreements, GMRAs, ISDAs, etc.)

Technical Specialist Skills
· Superior research skills
· Federal income tax knowledge reflective of 4-6 years of experience
· Quantitative and Excel spreadsheet skills

· Well organised and ability to co-ordinate multiple assignments and successfully manage work plans
· Actively take responsibility and ownership for corporate tax technical issues impacting the Macquarie Group
· Open communication of issues to their Manager and the Americas Head of Tax
· Ability to support other Tax Division members globally when situations arise to ensure requirements and goals are met
· Flexible approach to process change
QUALIFICATIONS
· 4-6 years experience in a tax role in a law firm or accounting firm
· Candidates with (a) an accounting degree and a Master of Tax or (b) a law degree will be considered
