Mount Sinai Services Inc. (MSS), a commercial entity of Mount Sinai Hospital, is a global provider of customized laboratory and research services to pharmaceutical and biotech companies, researchers and other life science partners. MSS operates in three primary areas of business: 1) Laboratory Services - offering extensive clinical lab testing services to the broader hospital and health care market, 2) Clinical Trial Management and Research Services - offering sophisticated research and clinical trial services to support the RD needs of academic and industry clients, as well as specialized development and validation services for new assays and medical devices, and 3) Personalized Medicine - offering development support for new personalized medicine tests on state-of-the-art platforms as well as the marketing of these tests to health care professionals and the general public.
Join the MSS team to build and cultivate customer relationships and to develop new business by leveraging the knowledge, expertise and state-of-the-art laboratory services and technology only found at Mount Sinai. The Managing Director of MSS will provide strategic vision and lead sales and marketing efforts by securing and managing key business development opportunities and clients. As an experienced leader, you will work with MSS’ Scientific Director, oversee MSS staff and manage MSS’ relationships with Mount Sinai Hospital departments and senior management, including the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Department of Microbiology.
This position will appeal to an entrepreneurially-minded individual with excellent prospecting, sales and relationship building skills. As a seasoned business development professional, you possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and presentation skills along with a high level of initiative and adaptability to rapidly changing demands. You possess an ability to identify customer needs and conceptualize laboratory solutions that represent strategic business development opportunities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in the development and execution of long-term strategies to grow new business revenues
- Ensure MSS business development initiatives are aligned with the corporate vision and strategic plan
- Work closely with Mount Sinai Hospital’s Laboratory Medicine Departments and other senior members of the hospital to build a solid pipeline of new business opportunities, prioritizing targets based on business value and positive financial return
- Undertake all laboratory business development activities, including client identification, proposal development, pricing, negotiation and client/relationship management
- Handle complex negotiations with potential partners and clients; act as an expert on acquisition or new business targets related to laboratory and research services
- Analyze the laboratory industry, regulatory changes and developments that may impact opportunities
- Participate and have input into the development of systems and measures that appropriately assess performance
Job Requirements:
- University business degree
- 10+ years of experience in a diagnostic and/or research laboratory, or another health-related field; preferably from the private sector
- Excellent understanding of the laboratory and research services industry with strong business acumen
- Demonstrated track record of identifying, managing and coordinating business development and managing client relationships
- Proven track record as a superior deal maker who has a bias for action
- Superior influencing, collaboration and communication skills with an ability to build strong working relationships
- Established track record of developing and growing client base through effective business development
- Self-motivated, self-directed, inspirational leader who will take a broad mandate and run with it, shaping the vision and follow-on execution
- High energy and results focused, with the ability to deliver on time with high quality
- Moderate travel may be required
