Manufacturing Engineer Job Description
Responsible for the plan, layout, and sequence of manufacturing, assembly, test and material handling Operations using lean manufacturing principles. Identify and adapt machine and equipment design to accommodate factory and production conditions. Prepare requests and cost justifications for capital improvement projects. Study and improve manufacturing processes and procedures aimed at lowering manufacturing costs. Support new programs to ensure seamless coordination between functional areas and keep schedule dates intact for product introduction. Research, benchmark, introduce and maintain safety practices in all activities and supported areas. Plan the sequence of operations and write/maintain Work Center Instructions for each area. Engage in continuous manufacturing process improvement.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. ACE/Lean Visual Factory
2. Participate in Integrated Product Teams (IPT/IPPD) for new product
programs.
2. Develop manufacturing plans to implement these programs or any
projects.
3. Write and maintain process routers and work center instructions.
4. Perform cost engineering and standards analysis on products and
processes.
5. Develop capital plans for introducing or replacing factory equipment.
6. Provide make versus buy analyses on products and processes.
7. Perform capacity and factory layout analyses.
8. Develop new processes and equipment to support cost reduction and
throughput efforts.
9. Make periodic management presentations on program and project
status.
10. Support new technology and company initiatives (Standard Work,
Process Certification, VSM, 3P).
11. Understand and implement ACE/Lean principles and practices in all
manufacturing engineering decisions.
12. Coordinates with manufacturing personnel to define best practices and
resolve manufacturing problems.
13. Participate in and conduct Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) On the Fly and JHA Gold
assessments as required to detect and correct potential safety issues on the shop
floor.
Job Responsibilities
This position is for a Manufacturing Engineer. The primary responsibility will be direct support of the Clients Manufacturing Operation. Candidate will support both the tactical and strategic goals and objectives through the implementation of lean, documentation and improvement of manufacturing methods, implementation of capital equipment and advancement of manufacturing technology throughout Operations. Candidate’s responsibilities include the creation of Process Plans, creation of CNC programs, tool planning, gage planning, fixturing concepts, prove-out and troubleshooting of processes, cost estimates, time standards, technical support of shop floor, specification, justification and implementation of capital equipment, development of new processes, implementation of lean concepts on the Manufacturing floor, and support Design for manufacturability efforts. Expectation is all ME activities will integrate EHS, Quality, Delivery, Product Cost, and Inventory goals into their daily tasks and projects.
Education
Preferred: Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering
Client will consider other engineering degrees.
Experience / Qualifications
· 7 - 10+ years minimum experience in Manufacturing
· Knowledge of manufacturing concepts
· Knowledge and experience in implementing Lean Manufacturing concepts and techniques
· Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (PFMEA) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) experience
· Good analytical skills and should be detail-oriented
· Ability to adapt implement modern technology quickly
· Strong communication skills (written verbal) required
· Strong leadership skills required
· Strong computer skills required
· Experience in CAD/CAM
· Be able to work in a team and meet deadlines
· Candidate must be self directed, a self starter, and be able to multi-task and prioritize.
· Enthusiastic, cooperative, and positive behavior.
· Professional certifications/memberships, Design experience, Special Process background, Project Management all a plus.
· Ability to Process Plan Program CNC machines is a plus
