Market Risk Specialist

Temp assignment, for a minimum 6 months

Role Synopsis

The Market Risk Specialist will join the Market Risk Team within the Risk Function and report to the Regional Head of Market Risk. The London Market Risk Team is an integral part of the Risk Function and in addition, will function within a Global network, which includes other regions

The Market Risk Specialist role requires hands on approach interfacing with the Global Market Risk Team, Risk Network as well as with the Middle and Front Offices of the relevant regional businesses.
The candidate must be familiar with principles of market risk measurement and control. He/ She must also have a good understanding of the alternative methods to calculate value-at-risk, define appropriate risk factors and account for non-linear instruments.
The post requires a very good understanding of using market risk systems preferably in an energy environment. Strong knowledge of the need for a robust risk management framework in a trading environment is essential.
The successful applicant will have a strong knowledge in using Market Risk Systems and will be familiar with the practical difficulties of VAR and have a good understanding of the fundamentals of trading.

Essential Criteria Qualifications
-Familiar with the principles of market risk measurement and control
-Strong Analytical skills (the ability to grasp and communicate complex trading concepts into their economic effects
-Attention to detail
-Ability to perform in a very deadline orientated environment.
-Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate complex issues in a concise and clear manner.
-Ability to demonstrate strong focus on delivering solutions in a timely and effective manner with minimum guidance and supervision
-Ability to effectively and efficiently handle a variety of tasks, set priorities and measure and anticipate problems to accomplish specific priorities, goals and results.

Desirable criteria qualifications

-A university degree in a quantitative discipline (Science, Engineering, IT)

-Professional qualifications in Finance, Risk Management, or IT would be beneficial

-Understanding Trading Industry External Markets – Understands regularly uses market terminology.

-Demonstrates knowledge of basic transactions within the industry. Able to interpret explain the influencing market factors their related relationship to the fundamentals financial results.

-Regulatory Compliance Assurance - Is aware of the need to able to escalate issues is necessary.
