Description:
Will inspect work in checking for cross connections in the Camp's water system, maintain, regulate, and repair the ball flow devices in the Camp, and assisting in plumbing-related construction and repairs at the Camp facilities. A thorough knowledge of plumbing terminology, systems, reading/designing plumbing schemas/blueprints, and plumbing layouts is needed. Ability to operate trade-related equipment including sewer augers, power tools, jack hammers, trucks/jeeps, pipe threaders, arc welders, acetylene/cutting torches, buried pipe locator equipment, and gauges to test back flow preventer valves. The Master Plumber may be subject to chemical/mechanical hazards; required to push/pull very heavy materials; work in cold/wet/muddy places and under buildings; and exposed to dust/fumes. The master plumber also inspects various sewer systems to ensure conformance with Camp Statutes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform tracing for leaks in pipes and lines.
- Review work orders and prepare material list for completion of jobs.
- Inspect/certify back flow preventers on domestic/fire water lines.
- Repair/extend old plumbing lines or add new lines, including cutting and fabricating materials and amending blueprints.
- Repair/replace flush meters, toilets, urinals; repair/replace parts for like items.
- Install water heaters, drains, tubs, faucets, valves, pumps and commodes.
- Install new plumbing fixtures including new lines, traps, and drains.
- Provides analytic/diagnostic services or uses highest level technical skills which noticeably effect work results.
- Inspects commercial establishments for cross connections and maintains, database and record of the inspections.
- Lay out/install water/drain lines to meet plumbing code.
- Assists and provides advice to residents regarding water and pollution control, and informs them about the rules and regulations of Camp Leatherneck and Camp Ordinances.
- Maintains records of inspections and follow up where violations are found.
- Tests, repairs, install, and/or maintain the Camp's Backflow Device (BFD)
- devices.
- Performs plumbing repairs, installations, and/or regular maintenance to the
- Camp's buildings.
- Inspects the work of Camp contractors on behalf of the Contractor Architectural and Engineering team when requested.
- Performs other related work as required.
Typical Skills:
- Knowledge of the regulations concerning backflow, preventive devices, and pollution control, and Industrial Waste Ordinance is desirable.
- Ability to read safety manuals, operation guides, instructions, memos, maps, blueprints, schematics, letters, and professional journals.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical computations and shop math including, addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, fractions.
- Possess a valid driver's license.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduation from high school or possession of a GED, supplemented by a certified backflow tester license is required.
- Proof in experience in water pollution controls, plumbing or related field is required.
- Must have minimum 4-5 years of experience in similar job.
- Ability to complete the following training as required: lock out tag out, fall arrest, confined space, MSDS, asbestos and lead identification, ladder safety, emergency evacuation, OSHA and respirator training
- Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking.
- Must be able to safely use manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades. Must be able to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to electrical and other environmental hazards.
