Lead the materials joining discipline in the Materials and Processing Engineering group and provide leadership to subject matter experts in the area of material joining. Define, execute and manage projects/tasks aimed at technology development, transition and implementation related to materials joining processes including proposal writing, budgetary estimates, project planning and execution. Review, author, and modify standard work documents in the materials joining discipline to ensure that the current documents adequately support Pratt Whitney's business. Provide technical support to manufacturing operation business units in the area of process improvement, process variation, process control, quality requirements, and product disposition. Participate in Integrated Product Team to provide high level engineering support in the selection of material joining process and address the adequacy and influence of specific joining process on material properties and product performance. Engineering Source Approval for welding, brazing and diffusion bonding processes including being responsible for establishing Engineering substantiation programs to ensure the integrity of vital characteristics on critical parts and processes. Communication of design intent and materials and processing lessons learned to producers of critical parts, materials and processes.

A minimum of a BS degree in Materials Science or Metallurgy.

5+ years of strong experience in the metallurgy of materials and joining processes commonly utilized in the aerospace engine industry is required. Material of interest includes titanium, nickel, iron, and aluminum based alloys. Joining processes include but not limited to arc welding, beam welding, friction welding, diffusion bonding, and brazing processes.

Familiarity with and an understanding of joining processes used on gas turbine engines are required. Knowledge and experience with methods used to determine the technical capability of joining processes (i.e. metallurgical analysis, process controls, and testing methods).
