Duties and Responsibilities
Perform minor and major mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic repairs on stationary equipment associated with the production and transmission of gas; perform minor and major overhauls of reciprocating and turbine gas-compressor units and related support equipment (i.e., generator and water-pump units); respond to equipment problems and emergency calls; maintain mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment; train other mechanics; communicate information and recommendations to supervisors and co-workers; help in planning compressor-station-maintenance activities; help plan compressor-station-maintenance activities; inventory spare parts and maintain records on equipment; and perform other duties as assigned.
Work Conditions
Requires working: on-call; overtime; weekends and/or holidays; in extreme hot and cold temperatures; on uneven and slippery surfaces; in a noisy, hazardous environment with frequent exposure to moving objects. Requires frequent bending, climbing, twisting, balancing and reaching. May require exposure to chemicals: (i.e., natural gas, petroleum liquids, solvents, thinners, paints, resins, sealants, pesticides, fuel and fuel additives, lubricants, compressed gases, hydraulic and cutting oils, cleaners and detergents, metals and fluxes for welding, water-treatment chemicals, well-treating chemicals, corrosives and hydrogen sulfide). May require some out-of-town travel with overnight stays. Note: Must live in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
Minimum Qualifications
· Knowledge of: operating mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment (i.e., compressors, generators and water pumps); and basic arithmetic.
· Skill in: repairing mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment; maintaining and repairing natural gas stationary reciprocating and turbine engines or other related mechanical skills; and using industrial repair tools (i.e., power tools, grinders and torque wrenches).
· Ability to: communicate effectively orally and in writing; understand and respond to written and oral instructions; effectively communicate information to others; lift 100 pounds; move or jockey a full 55-gallon drum; see objects at close range; determine the distance and relationship between objects; hear to respond to internal and external inquiries; match or discriminate between colors; distinguish the nature of sounds to determine if equipment is running correctly; smell to detect natural gas; respond to emergency conditions (i.e., changing flat tires, chaining-up vehicles, operating jacks, performing minor maintenance and operating company phones and radios); contribute to a positive work environment; be courteous to co-workers and customers; follow directions from supervisors; and refrain from abusive or profane language and behavior in the workplace.
· Requirements: regular attendance; a valid driver’s license for the size and type of vehicle to be driven on the job; an acceptable driving record; undergo random drug and/or alcohol testing with satisfactory results subject to DOT and company requirements; obtain and maintain medical clearance to operate DOT-regulated vehicle; undergo annual audiometric testing; the ability to become DOT operator-qualified while working in the position; be neat in appearance; use personal protective equipment; and adherence to all company policies, including the Questar Corporation Business Ethics and Compliance Policy, and to all applicable industry rules and regulations such as FERC compliance.
