Mechanical Engineer II

This is a DIRECT HIRE position located in Houston, TX (Rankin Rd). 

Responsible for executing engineering projects of moderate complexity or phases of larger projects with minimal supervision. The candidate must have the following capabilities: Research and develop new design concepts; make design recommendations; detail layouts/drawings; perform engineering analysis and lead/participate in a hands-on capacity, in the laboratory and field testing of new products and design. Additionally the candidate will support sustaining engineering through continuous improvement and standard products by working closely with cross functional groups in materials, manufacturing and operations. May be the lead engineer on challenging projects with some functional supervision. Under general supervision, plan, conduct and supervise assignments. Review progress and evaluate results. Plan and assign personnel for given projects or tasks. Recommend changes in procedures. Operate with some latitude in making autonomous decisions. Review progress with team/project leader. Handle special projects, as assigned. 

Qualified candidates must have 1 to 2+ years experience in the design, development, test, and manufacturing of down-hole, oil well tools preferably with emphasis on sidetracking equipment, or fishing and remedial, or well abandonment tools. A strong understanding of engineering principles and problem solving capability is required along with the ability to organize, plan, and prioritize work. The candidate engineer must be able to perform in a team environment and be able to work solo on projects with minimal direction. The candidates must be able to communicate their position and previous design work and be able to describe the content of a project with confidence. The ability to communicate within the Smith/Schlumberger team and with external customers is a must. 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
