This position will target Energy and Propulsion business and research applications. Essential Responsibilities This role may include responsibilities in (1) developing and implementing physics-based computational fluid dynamics and thermal design methodologies (2) using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools to investigate complex aerothermodynamics of energy and propulsion devices (3) developing new techniques and instruments for measuring gas and metal temperatures (4) developing novel aero-thermal performance enhancement technologies. As a Mechanical Engineer-Thermal Systems, you will: - Define, create, implement and validate state-of-the-art numerical methods focused on solving turbomachinery heat transfer problems - Develop aero and heat transfer tools and processes to enable world class aero-thermal design speed and performance, including detailed validation - Develop measurement methodologies to measure temperature and heat flux in energy and propulsion systems - Use both proprietary and commercial CFD solvers, analysis systems and databases, in your investigation of relevant fluid-dynamics phenomena to solve problems and invent technologies for next-gen systems - Be responsible for defining analysis and testing requirements based on specifications of customer needs, and executing the implementation of technical methods to facilitate the requirements. Qualifications/Requirements: - Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics or related disciplines OR Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics or related disciplines with at least 3 years of relevant engineering experience. - Demonstrated experience with fluid dynamics, relevant expertise in numerical modeling of aerothermodynamic flow phenomena and in engineering software development. - Knowledge and proficiency in Fortran or C++. - Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Desired Characteristics - Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Applied Mathematics - At least 2 years of experience in development and application of CFD for aerodynamics, heat transfer and high energy flows. - Graduate level experience in numerical methods and CFD; demonstrated ability to develop advanced CFD codes (e.g., 3D Navier Stokes solvers) - At least 2 years of experience in engineering software development. - At least 2 years of experience with commercial CFD packages (pre-processing, CAD model set-up, gridding, solver, analysis, post-processing) ex. CFX, FLUENT. Previous experience with CAD modeling (Unigraphics) and grid generation packages (ICEM CFD) - Experience in the development of thermal measurement technologies, including but not limited to pyrometry and thermal imaging - Experienced in large eddy simulations (LES) of transitional and turbulent flow - Proficiency in Fortran and C++. - Strong analytical skills. - Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills. - Ability to work across all functions/levels as part of a team. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
